"So how was practice? Is the dance coming along fine?" Grace asked as she helped herself with more wine.
"Yeah. It's going great." I smiled as I stuffed myself with more food.
"Good. I am soo excited to see your dance. I can already tell that it's gonna be the highlight of the evening." She gave me an excited smile.
I nodded awkwardly. I looked over at Jake beside me, he was still very quiet. He barely said anything during this whole lunch.
After finishing up and helping Grace clean up I bid my farwell and started for the front door.
Jake followed me. When we were out he closed the door behind us.
"Thank you." I said. "For having me over."
He nodded and gave me a smile that was barely called a smile. "Always glad to have you."
I gave him a small smile in return. "Well, I should get going then."
He nodded again and turned to go inside again but my words stopped him.
"Jake. You know that I don't blame you right?" He turned around slowly and matched my gaze with his.
"Yes." He replied softly.
"It's just that-" I started.
"You can't get over what happened." He completed my sentence.
I nodded, pain shooting through my heart.
"Neither can I. But not being with you, it's just-" he didn't complete his sentence. He left it hanging between us. My heart was beating painfully in my chest.
"Like I said Rissa, I get it. I get you. Okay?" He continued.
"Thank you." For understanding. Jake always got what I was feeling. He got me like no one did.
I don't know what came over me because then I moved towards him and pulled him to me in a tight hug. My hands were around his neck and my face in the crook of his neck. He felt like Jake. My Jake.
He was taken by surprise because he did nothing when I engulfed him in a hug but then slowly his arms came around me as well. He crushed me to himself and it felt like he would never let go and neither would I. My chest was against his and I felt his heart speeding up like mine. His hugs were the most special and precious things ever.
We stayed like that in each other's arms, taking each other in. Then slowly I started to pull away. He resisted a little, drawing me near him once again but then he let go finally.
With that I turned around and started towards my house.

"Hey girlie!" Adam greeted me as I pulled out my books from my locker.
"Hey." I smiled up at Adam. He was excited about something. He looked like a hen that learnt how to fly.
"What?" I asked him as he looked like he was about to explode because of the excitement.
"You won't believe what happened." Adam gushed.
"God Adam! Tell me already." I groaned.
"Kevin agreed to go on a date with me." Adam squealed excitedly.
"Oh. OH! Congratulations boy. You must be in heaven." I hugged him.
Kevin was Adam's crush. Kevin was in a different school but they lived in the same locality.
"You have absolutely no idea." He laughed and pulled me in a bear hug. I chuckled at his reaction.
When he pulled away he gave me a kiss on my cheek and nose. "Clary have I ever told you that you are an amazing friend?"
I laughed out loud at that. "Yeah yeah you surely have." I gave him a kiss on the cheek too.
Then I turned around from his. Excited Adam was dangerous. I had a huge smile on my face but it evaporated as soon as I saw Jake. Jake was standing right in front of me 5 lockers away with nothing but pure hurt on his face. His fists were yet again in tight fists by his sides.
As soon as he saw me looking he turned around and started walking on the opposite direction, away from me.
"Jake!" I called after him but he didn't stop so I started following him.
He was walking very fast and I had a hard time catching up. But I finally caught up. He stopped at the bleachers on the ground. No one was there except us.
"Jake wha-" I started.
"You know what Rissa, I am done. I am done trying to get you. Yesterday you made me feel like you had something for me, like you felt the same way I did." My heart stopped at that. "You gave me hope yesterday. You hugged me like you never wanted me to go, the same way I did." My heart was having a difficult time working. Jake was making it difficult. "I thought you wanted some time to analyse things, to come to it on your own terms but here you are kissing your ex boyfriend, hugging him like there is no tomorrow." He looked furious to say the least.
"It isn't what you are assuming Jake?" I tried to make him understand.
"Assuming?" He scoffed. "Okay then tell me what is it then? Why was he kissing you and you were doing the same thing?"
"I- I can't." He scoffed. I can't tell him Adam's secret. It's not my place. "We are friends Jake."
"Sure. It surely looked like that. He was your boyfriend Rissa. Looking at you both, it looked like you were back together like how you were." He was soo hurt. It pained me to look at him this way.
"Rissa even you let me out to dry. You gave me hope then left me too." My heart hurt. I didn't know what to say. I wanted to tell him the truth but how can I? I can try to explain but it would always end up with one question why was Adam soo close to me if we were over.
"Jake no. Please. Don't be like this." Tears were threatening to pour out of my eyes.
But before I could do anything, say something he left.
