● Gougou Katsuki and Akitani Yamikumo are Izuku's and Katsuki's first prototypes!

Izuku Deku was at one point called Akitani Mikumo aka Yamikumo (because tani can also be read as 'ya' in japanese and Yami means darkness refering to his gloomy appearance). Horikoshi wanted to make the main character stand out more from the original one-shot but got annoyed at the hair covering his eyes saying "cut your hair" and concluded that Deku is best looking plain. His setting isn't too different from the final product. He's often coloured with purple hair but as far as I know it is not an official thing confirmed by Horikoshi. I think he has a quirk but some people adapt him as quirkless.
Katsuki Katsuki at one point was a kind, sociable and positive character. A genious with a "anyone can do it if they try" attitude but ends up occasionally hurting others due to not having a filter for his thoughts. Horikoshi thought that this was lame and remembered how a character with an explosive attitude was popular in his previous series and decided to make him an ass.

Everyday... Gougou has a task.
He's seen often in the flower shop, buying bouquets of any type of flowers they have in store the day of.
Every day, he'll take one flower from the bouquets he buys, and happily hops his way to Yamikumo.
Every day, he'll give him a flower... it doesn't matter if the flower is stomped on, bitten, torn apart, thrown away or shoved back in his face; Gougou will make sure that flower stays in Yami's stuff.
Within the first two months, Yami begins to keep them. He's grown tired of pushing aside the constant attempts of getting a simple "hello" from him.
He's insistent, the least he wants to do is befriend "Yami-chan".

"Yami-chan, Yami-chan!"
He groans, already. He turns to face the blonde who quickly jogged his way towards him, holding up a flower.
"Here you go!- They didn't have lilies, so I just got you a sunflower!"
"Why do you bother?"
He jumps in front of him, clutching onto the big flower with sparkling eyes and a winner's smile as the gloomy boy looks up at him with exhausted, annoyed eyes.
"I just like it." He giggled, "like I like you, Yami-chan! Please accept this flower-!"
He stares up at him with the unchanged, except slightly less annoyed expression, and took the flower with a sigh.
"Stop wasting your money." "It's not wasting-! I- I do it for a good cause-!" "What good cause?" He asks in a harsher tone, "tell me. What good cause?" "Y-..You, Yami-chan...- you're the good cause."
He glares at him for a neglecting second longer before storming off.
He drops the flower, like expected... but it's a work in progress.
They grow.
In many ways.. they grow.
Gougou becomes more successful. More powerful... more widely-known around their school for each achievement he makes. While Yamikumo... he just... falls back. He's successful as well... to a limitless fault, he's simply astonished, always, by how Gougou never fails to surprise him...
Never fails to surpass him...
And he finds himself admiring it.
He'll question is tremendously most times... while others, he'll never catch himself admiring the hard work he puts into each task he makes.
And days turn into months... months fly into years...
And things change.
Flowers... bloom, let's say.

With the constant insisting... with the daily flowers, the smiles, and compliments...
With it all lessened, and nearly gone... with the skipped days that he didn't receive a flower... the days that he didn't even see Gougou, he decided to do something in return for his past.
"Welcome to the boutique! How can I help you, young man?"
"Uh... I'm looking for.. a big bouquet... the largest you have."

"Oi... you annoying prick..." he called out with a grumbling, tired tone. He doesn't flash that huge smile he always did, but he does shine a small, quick and curious smile. He approaches... normally, unlike how he always used to do.
"Hi Yami-chan...-! Those fl--!"
What he's about to comment on is quickly shoved into his face. He quickly saves the large bouquet from falling by grabbing onto it... it fits perfectly in his arms, they smell lovely...
Yamikumo looks embarrassed and slightly uncomfortable.
"There. Now we're even." "U--!? Whuaa--!?" "Don't trash them either!" He snaps, "they were damn expensive...-" "Y-Yami-chan-!"
He groans loudly and covers his face.
"I GUESS... You're not so bad..." he grumbles, his face heating up from embarrassment, "you're cute, or whatever the hell..." his voice trailed out to indecipherable mumbles and grumbles. Gougou's eyes are lighting up... his heart is in complete flutters.
"Just-!" Yamikumo finally snaps, "don't waste any more of your stupid money on me! I get it!" He grumbled, "if you want my attention, you got it!"
His face reddens more as Gougou giggles. He hopped forward and hugged Yamikumo..- well, as best as he could, with the large bouquet in between them-
"Yami-chan's adorable!" "F-Fuck off with your lies-..." he grumbled, looking away.
He sighed, and placed a hand on the back of Gougou's head, to sort of hug him back.
"Shitty prick's adorable too... I guess..." he mumbled.
