During his middle school days, Katsuki liked to sneak out of the house and walk by the river nearby. A lake connected to it at about a ten-minute walk distance from the river, to which Katsuki had found only once his father had taken him out for a ride, to test out their newly bought car.

He'd grown of interest and had sneaked out the next day.

At the dead of night, he'd packed himself a backpack with water, his phone, some money, and snacks, alongside a sandwich, in case he'd gotten lost, having it be his first day sneaking out to a place so far.

His mother heads to bed late at night, meaning he'd had to wait until around one in the morning to safely leave the house without raising suspicions or an unwanted witness.

Successfully escaping always gave him a pure sense of freedom. He's always felt independent whenever he roamed around on his own, and never once doubted his own capability of defending himself from any casual danger a thirteen-year-old could face when walking alone in the streets of Musutafu.

And besides, this was his stress' therapy. Long, lonesome walks around the less-habited places of where he's lived in all his life.

The lake's surroundings looked peaceful from what he'd seen during his "Safety search", something he does always before settling in the area to relax or explore.

The lake's water seemed agitated, however, which struck the blonde in an odd way. There was no heavy wind, and as far as he'd been told, no large creature habited it.

Nonetheless, he sat down in front of it, to relax and admire for a bit.

He liked how eerily silent everything stood, aside from the water. How every shadow merged, leaving an endless black surrounding him...

To most, it would be off-putting and disturbing... to him, he's not bothered by it. It's the quietness that does it for him; no screaming... unlike home.

He exhales a deep breath, feeling his body relax at that second.

He finds himself focused on the water. Not for its shimmer, but for its agitated ways. He ponders if he should approach it or not.

"Walking back home drenched in lake water is something I don't need."

But with one more splash in the water, the boy is won over in the decision.

He leaves his backpack aside and pulls himself up to his feet. He lingers for a while, dragged, lazy steps are taken as he keeps his eyes low on the water. He gives himself plenty of time to turn back before he gets too close to the water.

He picks up a stone from the grass, tossing it up a few times nonchalantly, chewing on the inside of his cheek as his mind begins to prepare itself for whatever lurks under the water before hin.

He chucks the stone in, watching it disappear straight down. Nothing odd, gravity took its normal toll.

But that wasn't all. Which is what gained the boy's full interest.

He finds himself on his knees, right at the edge of the lake. He sees his reflection in the now murky-looking water. He questions himself on how he hadn't noticed, how dirty and bizarrely milky the water seemed to be.
