The feeling of a cold rag against my forehead woke me up out of thoughts.

"Kai, are you okay?" said mom as she looked at me nervously while also being in panic mode.

Ignoring her I spoke, "Did I hear you? I must of heard you wrong and you must of heard him wrong."

To say that I'm in denial is a understatement because I'm not going to believe that any of this is the truth. I need someone to come out the corner already and tell me this is a prank or something.

"First, take it easy. You had a panic attack. Secondly, I heard him right Kai and he wants custody of you. I don't have all the answers right now."

"So that's it? We just wait it out so he can just take me. Literally that's all you have to say? Well while you wait I'm going to do something."

I got out of her embrace. She can't be serious. She's acting like it's no big deal but it is.

"What do you want me to say? You want me to tell you that it's going to be fine and you won't have to worry about it? Well guess what you want to take on adult responsibilities and all of a sudden be miss independent so bad, so suck it up. He said the paper's should be coming in the mail, so all we can do is wait."

I rolled my eyes. What does me wanting to better myself and getting a job has to do with this? She should be happy that I'm trying to help out, but no I get told the opposite.

"You can't be serious? What kind of mother says that?" I mumbled low enough so she couldn't hear. I'm not that crazy.

I was annoyed and focused into my thoughts that I didn't see mom by the door with her keys.

"Are you coming or not?" I shrugged and found a pair of slides and met mom downstairs in the car.

"Where are we going?" I asked mom as she headed in the direction that we usually take every morning .

Why are we going to Buckhead? Then I started to think. I know she isn't about to do what I think she's about to do.

"By your fathers. I need some answers," said mom bitterly.

With that I'm stuck speechless. There's nothing else to say except for the billion questions in my mind.

...

@ Donor's House:

The similiar scenory of Buckhead features came into view as mom turned before the tall gate to donor's house. The code must of been the same because we were beeped in. Here goes nothing. As mom attempted to get out the car she stopped.

"Kailyn, I'm sorry about earlier it's just a lot going on right now. This just adds to the list. I just want you to know that I'm going to fight to get custody for you but with courts being involved my chances are going to be slim. They always go to the parent that can finacially give the child more opportunites which your dad does and I don't. Just know that either way that I'll be trying."

I nodded because like she said 'she'll try' that's all I can ask for, right? We both got out the car and made our way to the front door. After ringing the doorbell for a couple of minutes the door opened revealing Veronica the woman the donor left mom for.

"Hello ma'am." Veronica saw me and nervously smiled. I frowned back. "And hello Kailyn...this must be your mother, Maya?"

This women had the nerve to try and shake mom's hand. I can already see that this going to be a disaster. Mom looked at Veronica's extended hand and laughed.

"Where's Carter?" asked mom ignoring Veronica's hospatality.

"He's upstairs. I'll go get him. Make yourself comfortable," she smiled, running upstairs.

Both me and mom stepped into the house standing awkwardly by the door.

"Comfortable? Does she not know that this used to be my house? Who does she think I am?" mumbled mom angrily.

Heavy footsteps came dwon the stairs showing donor and his instant mug.

"Veronica you can leave now I got this," he murmured.

"But Carter-"

"Upstairs now!" Donor ordered making Veronica smile back at us.

"It was nice meeting you Maya and seeing you again Kailyn."

After she was upstairs donor gave us his attention.

"You got five minutes my girlfriend is upstairs with her daughter, so make it quick."

Mom spoke up no longer seeming nervous, "I'm only here to talk about this custody battle you called me about. I don't understand why we can't come to an agreement."

Donor began to walk up closer to the both of us clapping like this was a celebration.

"Look who's finally being tough. The woman I married was a softy and was overly sensitive. But sorry to say you two wasted your time coming here."

"No what I wasted my time on was marrying a lowest of low person like you. All I'm asking for is for us to be civil for the sake of our daughter, but here you go being stuck in your ways. I see you're still the same bitter man that I married, so I guess neither one of us has changed. I left my house that I helped to build just for you to move some random into it. I left with daughter and moved and found an apartment on my own without asking or needing your help. So why can't you just try to be a decent person for once?

I stood by the door while they both argued. I'm not even sure why I'm here. She could've left me in the apartment for all of us. They always do the samething which is argue until it gets out of control. Donor stared back at mom in disbelief. Most likely shocked that mom for once is speaking up for herself for once in her life.

"Maya, why do you even care? You know that I make triple of what you make at the box you call a job, so don't act like it wouldn't help if Kailyn stayed over here. You should know better than to be questioning me woman."

"Woman? At least respect enough to address me by my name. How would you like it if I called you an *sshole just because you are one it doesn't mean that's what I should call you to your face. Besides I am still your wife, sir."

"Not for long," he laughed. How disrespectful?

Mom grabbed onto my arm heading for the door until I was pulled bak.

"You're right. I can't do this anymore. You win you selfish *sshole."

With that donor's face turned red and his anger radiated throughout the room. In a flash donor's hand was met with mom's face. Not this again. Mom held onto her face from pain. I can't believe he would still do something like that while is other woman and her child was just upstairs.

"That will be the last time you will ever put your hands on me, Carter!" yelled mom walking out the door.

As I attempted to follow because there is no reason for me to be anywhere near this man's existence anymore, he grabbed onto my shoulder tightly.

"Let me make this clear for the both of you. I always get what I want. Don't ever forget that I'm your father. I have the right to see you whenever I want. Do you understand?" the foul smell of alcohol consumed my senses as he talked.

Even if I wanted to reply I couldn't because his grip was too firm and I couldn't focus on anything but that until he continued to squeeze my shoulder with his agony. I have to say say something because now I think I'm going to have a bruise.

"Let go of me! You're hurting me!" I yelled. Where was Veronica and her daughter they had to hear all of this?

Donor smiled before letting me go, "Remember this isn't over."

He left the room leaving me to walk out the house feeling numb. He was right this was far from being over. He was just getting started.
