*Kailyn's Pov:
The brightness from the sun wasn't blocked by the blinds, so I already know Nurse Jayde is in here somewhere.
"Hey sleepy head. Time for breakfast and don't worry I bought you something from the cafeteria. You need to start eating in order for you to heal."
I adjusted my eyes silently thanking her. As soon as I set up she was already in my face with her gloves handy. Today she wore all black scrubs, black hurraches, and a high ponytail. She checked my wounds before cleaning them.
"I almost forgot that someone sent you those," she pointed to the bouquet of roses on the side table. "Call me nosy but I asked the front desk who sent them, but they didn't tell them. I had to make sure it wasn't from your father. That man almost made me catch a case with his rudeness. I can't wait until I see him on the streets," she said seriously and I laughed.
"Can you pass the card to me, crazy woman?" I asked as she handed a enevolpe with fancy typed words.
I know you had a bad day yesterday and I can't be there for you again, so I bought you these.
He definitely earned some points with this. I think it's crazy how he still remembered my favorite flower.
"Someone has a secret admirer," teased Nurse Jayde.
I smiled at the note before sending a quick text to Marcus.
Marcus 🤔👀😒
Thank you for the flowers 💕
No problem ugly ❤️
"Tell Dr. McCall I said hi," giggled Nurse Jayde, giving me a knowing look leaving me speechless.
"What... how?"
She waved me off, "Girl close your mouth. I'm Nurse mother freaking Jayde. I know everything. Y' all cute or whatever, but you need to tell him it's on sight the next time I see him."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
She can't be serious. I'm about to deny to my fulliest.
"Sure you don't. You might as well stop lying. I'm not stupid. I could tell something was going on between you two since you arrived. When you first came here, Dr. McCall looked like he seen a ghost. Then you wake up and you was both acting weird. Basically making it obvious."
Obvious? I don't know about all that.
"I don't understand why y' all keeping it quiet. Is it about the age difference?" I nodded. Nurse Jayde sat on the bed beside me grabbing my shoulder. "Kailyn I'm not your mother so I'm not going to tell you what to do but I can give you some advice. You're 16 techniqcally still a child, but you still are old enough to know what you want. Now a days age don't matter, but if I were you I would talk to your mom so she can help guide you. It's not my place to tell you to go for it, but I can tell you that Dr. McCall and you seem happy so that's all that matters."
I'm listening to everything that she's saying but me and Marcus in a relationship that's impossible. I'm about to turn 17 in a month but still it's not right. It's bad enough that he's my doctor and I known him ever since high school and now he's my bestfriend. I feel like none of this is right. Besides my life is already a screw up and I've messed up Marcus's life enough as it is. A relationship is the least of my worries.
"You'll figure it out but in the meantime don't forget about you're questioning with the detective."
Dang, I forgot. Now I have to prepare myself because I already know it's not about to go good.
...
It's currently 3:00 on the dot and mom and I are waiting for Detective Anderson. Mom already gave me a run down of the type of questions that would be asked but I shrugged her off. When in law enforcement do things ever go as planned or they turn out simple? That's my point. Every since my conversation with Nurse Jayde I've been trying to avoid contact with Marcus when anyone is around. I know he can tell that something is up because he's called about ten times and texted. Eventually I had to turn my phone off.
"He's on the way," said mom as she stood by the door.
A loud knock sounded against the door as mom opened it revealing this real tall guy. He kind of reminds me of someone out of the movies. You know the tall guy, all black suit, and his figure.
"Hey, Maya. You good?" his voice sounded extra deep.
Mom smiled, "I'm fine. Thanks Kyle. I think it's about time you meet Kailyn."
The tall guy walked in my direction staring at me intently, "Kyle this is Kailyn my daughter and Kai this is Detective Anderson the man who's been working on your case."
Mom introduced us, "Nice meeting you Kailyn. I've learned a lot about you over these last couple of weeks." I smiled to be respectful.
"I'll let y' all be. I'll be back," said mom as she left leaving there to be an awkward silence in the room.
"Ok well to start off I'm Detective Anderson but everyone calls me by my first name, which is Kyle. I want you to know that I'm not like the other law enforcement people you see on tv. I'm real chill and my job is to get a closer look into what happened to you. Basically to make sure that everyone did their job. I just need to ask a few questions and I need you to answer them as clearly as possible. This will be a formal questioning where we record the conversation for our personal records regarding to your case. So try to refrain from nodding and answer verbally," he sat what I'm guessing is a recorder beside me before grabbing a notebook out of his suit.
"The first question is who did you keep in contact with before your attempt?"
This is simple because I don't like talking to people. "I only kept in contact with three people. My boss, Mr. Andy. A co-worker named Jessica and my mom."
He nodded continuing on, "We've heard about you skipping school a few times. Can you elaborate what was the cause to that?"
I gave him a look of confusion because I want to know how he could've possibly known that. Maybe these people in Atlanta do know how to get answers.
"I'm not sure."
The detective eyed me before scribbling something down. "Alright. Do you have any knowledge where or why Dr. McCall left town?"
"No clue." I have to keep my answers nice and short so the less they know the better.
He dropped his pen giving me a knowing look, "Mrs. Monroe, if we're going to get somewhere with this case you need to answer the questions.
I crossed my arms glaring at him, "Maybe if you ask me something worth answering then you'll get somewhere."
He chuckled lowly growing inpatient. "How about you knowing Dr. McCall before visiting this hospital?"
I narrowed my eyes at him. He has to be joking with me. He wanna come up here talking about he a chill guy when he sitting in my face thinking he figured something out major. I think not. I don't get why Marcus is so important to them.
"Again, I don't know what you're talking about. I met Dr. McCall here at this hospital. Even though I don't get what this has to do with anything."
"I'm glad you asked that. I figured you would say you didn't know him that's why I bought this," he dug in his pocket to bring out a folded piece of paper.
Taking the paper and unfolding it was a photo from three years ago. My jaw dropped at the memory. It was something from my past that seems to keep coming back up.
Suddenly my hands start to shake uncontrollably. In the distance I hear, "Someone help! I think she's having a seizure or something. Help!"
I can feel my body twitch. Out of nowhere my own blood drops onto my hospital gown. Even my eyes are fluttering. What's happening to me?
