After a much needed walk around the hospital, Maya finally calmed down. She just needed a break from everyone else. As for Veronica and Carter they were escorted out by security. The detective on the other hand had to get his hand bandaged. Lucky for him he had only bruised it, but he was still in a lot of pain. Once his hand was situated he waited in the waiting room for Maya to return.
The detective began to become nervous since Maya still hadn't shown back up. Deciding that he would go and look for her, he grabbed the bag of food and walked out the hospital. The hospital's set up was basically basic. The snack machines and benches sat in the corner of the entrance. When looking around, he finally saw Maya sitting on a bench looking down.
"Maya I'm sorry that-" he was cut off by her rushing to wrap her arms around him.
At first Kyle was taken back, but instantly hugged her back. The two were silent for moments until Maya decided to speak, "I'm sorry that I even put you in that situation. I also apologize for his behavior. Sadly he's always like that. I appreciate you stepping in, but you really didn't have to do that. It wasn't necessary but-"
Kyle frowned grabbing her face so that she was staring directly at him. "First, you can stop apologizing for that jerk. I would gladly beat the shi* out of him again. Secondly, it was hell of necessary because no body is about to put hands on a woman in front of me. You also didn't put me in anything. I just can't stand stuff like that. He was dead wrong, but so were you." Maya scrunched her face up in confusion, making Kyle chuckle.
"Don't give me that face. I heard your conversation and what he was saying was disrespectful, so I don't blame you for feeling a type of way, but you can't put your hands on somebody and not-"
"First of all-"
Kyle stopped her in her tracks, "I wasn't done talking. As I was saying you can't just hit somebody without them doing something about it. Don't give me wrong he was provoking you, but next time just walk away. People like him are the reason why I'm so protective over people. But let's eat our food it's probably cold."
He grabbed her hand and led her to his all black Range Rover. He opened her door then made way to his side. After getting in the car he turned the AC on since it was warm outside then he handed her a burger from A.N.D.'s Diner.
"Thank you," she mumbled. She was still in shock from the way he had talked to her.
Kyle eyed her before smirking, "Why you so quiet?"
Maya shrugged while wiping her mouth, "I'm not. I'm just thinking. I also don't want you to think I hit him for no reason. I've taken his abuse for about 14 years so that smack across his face was nothing compared to what he put me through. Not to mention what he said about my daughter. Trying to deny her. When he knows that I've only been with his sorry self all my life. But I understand what you were saying. Maybe I should've walked away but he irks my nerves. He deserves a beat down, but it's ok he'll get his karma."
Kyle continued to eat while listening to every word she spoke. He commended her on staying strong through everything she's been through. Hearing that her husband abused her for years made him want to punch the guy some more.
With his bad hand he held Maya's hand, "I'm sorry that all that stuff happened to you. All that you've been through is probably bottled up inside you. So it was likely for it to take it out on him sooner or later. I don't blame you though. Just know that when you're with me you don't have to worry about somebody hurting you. I know it comes with my job, but I mean it."
Maya couldn't help but to smile. They sat in silence enjoying their food. Even though it was silent it was a good silence.
...
Kailyn wiped away her tears feeling drained she couldn't help to feel like she had a step back. Her therapy did her good but her donor just had to ruin it. She probably wouldn't have cared about him showing up because he was always unpredictable. She just felt down since she heard their whole conversation. Hearing her mom get out of character because the man she married didn't know how to talk to a female, nor treat someone with respect. To hear that the man she despised the most say that she was worthless and that he didn't believe she was his blood made her feel worse.
She didn't care about what he said because the feeling was mutual but to actually hear the person who unfortunately gave her life deny her made her feel like he was right. Shaking her head she sucked up her cries and tried to pull herself together. She needed to hear his voice. Quickly she called him and waited for him to finally answer on the final ring.
"Yes ma'am?" he questioned, while he drove to his parents house.
Kailyn stayed quiet because she felt herself about to cry again. "Hello? Kai, you good." he asked, while worry was all in his voice.
She sighed finally deciding to answer, "I'm here."
"What's wrong and are you crying?" he quickly took his eyes off the road to glance at Kailyn.
"Not anymore."
Marcus frowned while pulling up to his parent's house, but he decided to stay in his car to talk to Kailyn. "So are we going to continue to stay on the phone and listen to each other breathe or are you going to tell me what's up?"
Kailyn sighed, "My donor decided to show up with his girlfriend at the hospital. I think things got physical between him and my mom. And I heard him talk crap about me, nothing new."
Marcus looked at her in pity. No one knew Kailyn's story except for him so he knew how she acted differently when Carter was around.
"Kai forget what he said. He's just miserable and clearly has a problem. Remember how hard you worked in therapy to let go of that pain. Don't let him ruin your progress."
Kailyn smiled at his response because she knew that he was right. "Look who's good with his words, but thank you."
"No problem. It's my job bestie. But why do you still call him your donor?"
Instantly her mood changed again. "Why not Marcus? He's not a father to me. He never was. I at least try to be respectful and not call him an a** so I think donor is just fine. He wasn't good for anything except for contributing to the cause of me so technically he is a donor."
Marcus laughed taking his key out the ignition of his rental. He wanted to stop by and check on his mom since he rarely got the chance to see her because of him living 8 hours away. Though he missed his mom, he also hated coming back to Virginia because of his father. Grabbing his phone he looked down to see Kailyn staring at him.
"I know I'm cute in all, but you don't have to keep staring ugly." Kailyn smacked her lips preparing to cuss him out until she heard a loud screech on the other end of the line.
"My baby is finally home!" Mrs. Sandra, Marcus's mom embraced him in a hug. Even though they spent time together the other day it was cut short because of his father.
"Ma relax. I just saw you like a day ago, but anyway I have a surprise for you." his mom scolded him yanking his ear before slowly letting it go remembering that there was a surprise.
"What is-"
Marcus showed her the phone. Kailyn smiled into the phone waving excitedly at her because Mrs. Sandra was someone that she missed. His mom eyed the phone then glanced back down to Marcus in questioning before she grabbed the phone from his hand.
"Is that my Kai?" she gleamed.
