*This Chapter is more about Marcus than Kailyn. It goes into more detail about Marcus's life but still includes Kailyn too. Just read.
"Yes it's me, Mrs. Sandra. How've you been?" Kailyn chuckled from Mrs. Sandra excitement.
"Child I'm living. What about you? Is that hospital gown I see?" She eyed in Kailyn's surroundings and appearance.
Marcus glared at his mother to keep her quiet, "Ma don't be asking all them questions. It's a long story."
Mrs. Sandra smacked him up side his head, "Boy you better recognize who you speaking to. And it was only a question so shut up before I smack you again," she looked back at Kailyn to see her trying not to laugh. "It's okay to laugh at his ugly self. One of these day he going to keep playing with and won't be satisifed until I whoop him."
Kailyn laughed while Marcus glared at them both. "Bestie you suppose to be on my side not laughing along to her mess. And y' all gone stop calling me ugly knowing I'm fine."
"Boy you not all that. But I'm sorry bestie but I'm on Mama Sandra side. You still bestie though."
Marcus muged them both, "Forget y' all both. I guess it's forgot Marcus since you both seen each other."
"Exactly and I could be enjoying this time if your stupid self got out your feels. Go make yourself useful and help put them groceries away."
Marcus left the room while Mrs. Sandra stayed on the phone for a while. They talked about mostly everything except for why she was in the hospital. They were basically catching up and talking about Marcus.
"Bye baby don't be a stranger or I'll come to Atlanta to find you myself. Take care now." After Kailyn agreed they hung up exactly when Marcus returned to the living room. She gave him back his phone and stared back at her son.
"So are you going to tell me how you're all of a sudden back in contact with Kailyn Monroe. The girl you met when you were in high school. Not that I'm complaining because I love that girl like she's my daughter. She was always so mature for her age, so maybe that's why but something isn't adding up."
"It's nothing mom. One night I was at the hospital when I saw her. We basically just fell back to how things use to be," he shrugged.
"Mhmm I bet. I told you a while back that Kailyn was the one for you, but you weren't trying to listen to me. But here's your chance take it. Cause if she's back in your life, it has to stand for something. Besides I never liked anyone you bought home they always had bad weave and too much makeup." she frowned, while he laughed.
"Dang mom you didn't have to come for them like that. I get it. Even though you always use to stay trying to make me and Kai more than friends. I've thought about it but it just don't seem right since our age."
Mrs. Sandra rolled her eyes in annoyance because she was tired and running out of patience. "Boy age ain't nothing but a number. Y' all only 4 years apart and besides she's beyond mature. She's about to be 17, so it's not that big of a deal. But if you decide to take that step you need to talk to her mom because I raised you to be respectful."
He only nodded taking in everything that she said. He just didn't know what to do. He was scared about her reaction because he didn't want to add to more of her stress. Their situation was already complicated and a relationship would only complicate things more.
"That's not it. I can tell."
"There's nothing. She's going through a lot and I don't want to add to it. She's the main reason I'm here."
His mom came over to where he was to give him a hug. "Marcus you can't run from things. I taught you better than that. If you like the girl, then say it. And the fact that you came all the way here tells me that something serious is going on. Just remember that this is your home, but don't ever hide from your problems. Something had to happen if you decided to come back here after all this time. This beef you have with your father needs to stop. You need to let it go."
Marcus smacked his lips because he wasn't trying to hear all that. "Whatever ma."
She pulled his ear when he tried to walk away. "Boy you going to stop playing with me and watch how you speak to me. You just mad because I told ya a** the truth. Your dad always will love you, but you seem to forget that. I understand he was tough on you growing up with all his expectations but you have to forgive him Marcus. Life is too short. I get it you can't stand him, hell I can't either but that's life for you son."
She gave him one last hug befoe heading to the kitchen to begin making dinner, while Marcus stayed on the couch trying to figure out everything that was happening in his life.
...
Back @ the hospital:
It had been a couple of hours since everything happened. After Maya and Kyle ate they discussed the new evidence he found. Apparently after he did a background check on Dr. McCall, it discovered that he was born and raised in Virginia. As in the same state as Kailyn. He thought it was too much of a coincidence that the two went to the same high school and never met each other until now. He couldn't ask Dr. McCall since he disappeared out of no where. His only option was to ask Mrs. Monroe and Kailyn.
"I think it's time for you to tell me what's been up with you?" asked Maya out of no where causing Kailyn to drop her phone.
Mrs. Monroe had yet to ask Kailyn about her suicide attempt. She didn't want to push her daughter. She wanted her to take her time and talk when she was ready. Today though she had a change of heart ever since her discussion with Detective Anderson. She knew her daughter was keeping something from her but for some reason she didn't tell her.
"Mom what are you talking about?" Kailyn gulped because she knew what she meant.
Maya eyed her daughter giving her a "really" look. "Kai, I've been real patient with you. You've always been closed off before but for the past couple of years it was more than normal. So I need to know why."
Kailyn bit her nails to avoid her mother's sight, "What do you want to know?"
"Everything. From the time we moved until now."
"Well I always felt alone, but me trying to kill myself I don't have an answer for that."
A small frustrated laugh escaped from Maya's mouth. "Alone? Really Kai? You had your father and I. You could of easily told us."
"Mom are you serious? How could you possibly say that when I can remember all the times you left the house with a brand new bruise on your face that you tried to hide. Then you left me at home with your drunk husband. You knew that I couldn't stand him, but you still left me with a drunk man."
"Don't try to blame me. You know why I left. It was safer to leave you with a drunk man who was your father than a drunken stranger. It's not like you were harmed, so I don't see your point. You just always hated your father after you became a teen."
Kailyn scoffed because she wanted to know if her mother knew how stupid she sounded. "You clearly have your mind made up about what you think you know. So you got your answer. Now can that be the end of it?" Maya began to grab her things preparing to leave the room.
"Fine Kailyn. Just fine, but you need to let everything out eventually. I'm going home to take a shower and grab more clothes. Don't forget tomorrow Detective Anderson is going to finally meet you. Today he told me some information about Dr. McCall but I'm not sure what it has to do with you," she shrugged leaving the room.
Kailyn rubbed her eyes in exhaustion because she couldn't understand what was happening. For her mom to believe her own words just didn't make sense to her. Then there's Marcus. Someone she cares about a lot, a person who saved her life, and someone who's hiding just because he helped her. She wasn't just at a lost. She was lost.
