Omniscient POV:
It was now Saturday and the diner was in full swing. Customers stormed in and out with their meals, while others sat to enjoy the loud atmosphere of everyone. Once again Jessica was alone upfront, since they still hadn't heard anything from Kailyn. Mr. Andy and Jessica both were disappointed why they couldn't visit her in the hospital. They both tried to contact her through phone, but so far there wasn't any luck. But waiting was causing them both to not focus on anything else.
Lately all Mr. Andy did was stay cooped up in his office once he opened the doors to the diner. You could tell something was wrong because he wasn't himself. He was always in good energy and was always up in someone's face. As for Jessica she was mute. She was exhausted from the overtime at both of her jobs, and her son Jayden didn't help. Without the help of Kailyn the diner was suffering too. She was always one step ahead of the customers and was on top of everything. It was evident that she hadn't been there in a while.
"Hey, I'm Jessica your waitress. Are you guys ready to order?" asked Jessica with her eyes dropping from her lack of sleep.
The two glanced back at the menus not sure in what to get. "Maya, what you getting?" asked the detective.
"Let me just get a cup of coffee," Maya sat in the booth prepared to discuss the news the detective called her about. They both agreed to meet at the diner since it was at the center of everything.
"I'll take the breakfast combo with everything including the toast and orange juice instead of the coffee."
Jessica scribbled their orders down before going to put the order in the system. What she didn't know was that she was face to face with her friends mother.
"How come you aren't eating? You're kind of making me seem fat," he joked.
Maya laughed back, "Your definitely not fat. I just haven't had an appetite lately. Coffee has been my breakfast, lunch, and dinner." It was like she couldn't eat a real meal after seeing her daughters body laid flat with blood spilling out her lifeless body.
Kyle frowned looking at Maya's body. Her eyes looked like she hadn't had an ounce of sleep. She didn't seem like she normally seemed. He wasn't about to have her not eating in his presence. He waved Jessica back over to the table.
"Can you add another breakfast combo to my order and instead of that coffee get her a orange juice too."
Jessica nodded making her way to the back to fix the order. After watching the waitress leave Maya arched her eyebrows in questioning. She was confused in to why he would do that.
"A woman has to eat," he shrugged her off.
The two sat in silence until their food arrived. Kyle didn't waste time to begin digging in his food, while Maya folded her arms watching him.
"You might as well eat. I want you to at least have something on your stomach other than some watered down coffee before we talk about your daughter's case. It doesn't look like you ate in a week," he eyed Maya up and down.
Maya gave up and ate a spoonful of grits and sipped the orange juice, "You happy?" she mumbled in annoyance.
Kyle chuckled and continued to eat, "Very much. Now we can talk."
Before they continued to she was feeling a type of way. His constant stares and telling her how she looked made her feel uneasy.
"Before we do all that, are you trying to say I look bad?" Maya glanced back at the detective as she cut up her pancake. She hated to admit that she was starving.
