Madison Lowe
Giving Jason the silent treatment was definetly not one of my favorite things to do, even though it had become more frequent with every day passing. Why would he let Blossom bring her friends with her after a day? She needed to know that everything is not given to you and that she won't have everything she asks for all her life. He was going against that and piling onto her growing ego.
When I was sitting on an arm chair, reading a brand new book, three teenagers flew inside the door and my inner peace was ruined. The chipper really did take the last bite of calm. Why? Why did he have to allow this right now? "Hey." I muttered. "Hi, mom." Blossom giggled. Right. I was her mom.
Blossom looked so happy that I couldn't quite break it to her yet. I decided to tell her when she had had her friends over for a while.
"I'm Madison. Maddie for short." I gestured a smile at the cute boy and the equivalent pretty girl next to them. Blossom's friends. The boy walked up to me and grabbed my hand."I'm Samson. Nice to meet you Mrs. McCann."
Polite. Very polite. Maybe a bit too polite for him to be Blossom's friend? I just smiled, nodded and kept quiet not to cause my little sister embarrassment.
"And I'm Sheila. I love your house, Maddie." I looked around, pretending to spectaculate over the gracious house she loved. "Why thank you, Sheila."
The trio left to hang out in Blossom's room and as soon as the door closed, something was released inside of me with a sigh. After that followed a tear. And another.
I didn't want Alyssa to suddenly come across me crying in the middle of the house so I went to the bathroom. It's the sixth. The sixth. Sixth. It kept repeating itself in my head until I started to whisper it for myself as the tears kept flowing one by one. Nothing seemed to stop the voices nor the tears. It was the sixth and nothing could stop that either.
"Maddie." I heard Jason sigh and I quickly unlocked the door, making him sneak inside the room. "I know, I know." My eyes were closed but I bet his lips were pouting outwards, like they always did when showing pity. His protective arms quickly covered as much of me as they could and I cried into his chest, even harder than I had before. "I- I hate this day."
"I'm sorry I didn't protect her enough- I'm so sorry. I know you're hurting. I hate this day, too."
"Stop blaming yourself. It wasn't your fault at all." I needed a few more minutes in his arms to be somewhat calm and controllable again. "I hate my dad. So much."
"He's still your dad, you know that right? It's like Alyssa loves me no matter what, no matter how many people I kill."
"But you didn't kill me. That's the point. You didn't take her mother away from her."
"I know that it's not the same thing. Just wanted to prove that deep down, you still have a bit love for him because he is your daddy after all." Jason stroked the sticky wet strands of hair out of my face and they fell in place with the rest of my brunette locks. "I don't love him. Not at all."
"You might feel different if you meet him again." Jason didn't even have to finish the sentence before I gave him a push backwards. "Sickest idea I've ever heard. You're losing your mind."
We walked outside and when we walked past Blossom's door and heard her hysterical laugh echo between the walls, I turned to Jason with my hand on my hip. "Is this the way you want her to grieve? Why did you let her bring them over?"
"I thought she needed this bit of happiness. I can't just say no to her, not when I've been an asshole."
"I don't like it at all. Please, I beg you baby, kindly ask them to leave." Jason nodded at my desperate order. "I will, I understand you now."
I stayed close but didn't want her friends to see my tear stained face, so I kept my distance. "Blossom. I'm sorry but um-" A loud and evident gulp left Jason's throat. "Today might not be the right day for this gathering. I really apologize but um- It's the sixth."
The heartbreaking, shaky sigh from Blossom almost made me want to cry again. "Okay."

The three of us sat down around the table when Alyssa had fallen asleep on the couch. It was late and it was easier to talk about it that way, without an eight year old asking questions. She didn't have to know about everything just yet.
"I still can't believe she's gone. It feels so unreal to know that she isn't here." Blossom commented and broke the silence. "What was she like, again?"
We often took this opportunity to tell the positive stories about her - to remember the bright spirit she carried. "Loving, very loving." I smiled.
"She was welcoming and open to everyone and everything." Jason told my sister. "She welcomed me so well even though her daughter was only 15 and took great care of me, too. She was so happy when Maddie got pregnant - only in her late teens." Blossom nodded and smiled. "I remember that she got us books about children and pregnancies. She was positive and open eyed."
"But she was also a bad ass bitch. She fought if she had to, don't forget that." I spoke. "I think she stood up to dad a bit too much sometimes. He had a temper that I would never want you to be around now."
"Don't you think I would have ended up with you two either way if he was so bad?" She carefully asked Jason and I. "I think so. It was bound to happen." My husband explained to her. "I wouldn't let you see or experience anything he could possibly have to offer. I care way too much."
"I don't get why he had to kill his wife. Our mom. Like, who does that?" Blossom was now getting upset and that was not the way we wanted the sixth to be for her. "We have our guesses of course, but no one can know for sure." I said. "He had a bunch of terrible companies going around, I think mom found out or something."
"Companies?" I looked at Jason for him to help
me out of the situation. I couldn't tell her about the companies just yet, the trafficking companies she was named after, or the ones he named after her. "Disgusting companies, as I would call them. We can talk about it another time." Jason smiled at her and I knew my sister, I knew that her mind didn't stop running there. Tears were rolling down her cheeks, in a discrete way. Jason didn't even notice.A peaceful, calm kind of silence layered over us and suddenly, someone who had a key entered the door. "I'm here! You better not be nake-" Alexander McCann had arrived. He walked up to us, shook Jason's hand and kissed my forehead, then he gasped at Blossom. "Almost thought you were Alyssa for a second when you were laying down." She rolled her eyes. "Okay."
Alex walked around the table and kneed down before Blossom. "You been crying, baby girl?" Blossom blushed without answering him.
"Alex." I called. "Why'd you come here at night? Is there anything you could possibly want?" Alex smiled at me and took the seat next to Blossom. "Yes. I have an announcement to make. You know the B productions?" Jason and I nodded, thanking the Lord that he didn't say the whole B word in front of B herself. "They've moved back in town. The master should also be back."
I closed my eyes and sighed. Why? Why did he have to do this right now? On this exact day?
"I knew this was gonna happen one day." Jason wasn't shy to spread his upper body across the table as a loud groan escaped his lips. "We should definetly meet up and have some kind of plan. I want to keep everyone safe."
Blossom coughed. "Should I be hearing this?" Alexander patted her head in response. "You can leave if you want to, it's okay."
Then he turned to us. "Well now that my son is finally a month, why don't you come over for dinner at our place? Friday?"
I smiled, just thinking about our families getting together and having a great dinner. If only Alex's girlfriend wasn't the biggest gold digger, if only she didn't hate my guts after I called her out on that - I would love to spend more time at Alexander's house and not have every single gathering at ours.
"Of course we'll come." Jason said.
