5: Without The Drugs

Jason McCann.

   Ultrasound. The first ultrasound of my life. I barely knew what it was until Madison explained a few things about it, most of it went into one ear and straight out the other. Gel and big screens. That's all.

   A smaller hand was placed on top of mine as we got closer to the hospital, instantly making me calm. I sent her a relaxed, loving smile, but my inside was the opposite. I was anxious, was everything alright with the baby?

   "Calm down, Jason." Madison said as if she could see right through me, which she probably could. "It's not that easy." I spat and pulled my hand away. Maddie parter her lips to sigh, getting on my nerves even more. I quickly parked the car and got out of it, taking her hand in mine. "I didn't mean to be rude, baby."

   If only I counted the amount of looks we got shot right at us the second we stepped into the hospital. Yes, we looked young but we didn't look our exact age. It didn't look extreme at all. Madison was the center of attention, people were giving her dirty looks. Wasn't teen pregancy increasing? Shouldn't society be used to it at this point and shouldn't older people be somehow supportive? Happy for us? The nerve of the people in here was real, were they completely heartless? I picked the seats right next to this little boy, who felt the need to glare at Madison and also whisper about us. He was going to learn from this. It was never going to be repeated.

   "Hey." I said, pretending to be nice. "I don't speak to people like you, you are embarrassing. If you can't use protection, don't bang the bitch." Excuse me? Was this little guy for real? "Listen here, kid. You have no idea who you're talking to. Let me introduce myself and start over? Shall me? I'm Jason McCann. Who are you, exactly?"

   His face lost all it's color and my famous smirk grew wide. "Should we start over now? I said hey, didn't I?" He couldn't speak. "If I ever catch you looking like that at my girl, or any girl, I'll not hesitate to fucking blow your brains out, am I clear?" He quickly nodded and got up, walking over to his friends at the entrance.

   "McCann." A nurse called out loud and I heard multiple gasps spread across the air. "That would be us.." I grinned at everyone, who by their looks wished that they could take back their behaviour from earlier. Now they've learned something.

   "There she is!" Ms Marie exclaimed. "She?" I blurted out, a smile still being stuck on my face. It's been there for the whole ultrasound and conversation with our nurse.

"Congratulations, Jason and Madison, you are expecting a very healthy daughter."

   Tears of joy escaped my eyes and I bent down to kiss my beautiful girlfriend. Pure happiness is what it was, I had never been in such an euphoric state of mind without the drugs. All because of my daughter, my baby girl and princess. I loved her already and because of her, I didn't need the drugs or alcohol. I was quitting it. I had to be a man for my precious.
