Asia POV
Nia called me earlier and said that she couldn't come in to work. So I have to watch 10 kids by myself. I'm pretty sure I can do it though. I hope she isn't sick. I got dressed then decided to call Ken. He picked up on the last ring.
Ken- Wassup?
Me- Hey, you think you can drop me off at work?
Ken- Nah I cant lil sis. I'm out of town.
Me- oh..okay well I'll just walk it's not that far.
Ken- aigh lemme know when you get there safe.
Me- okay bye.
With that I hung up. "Hey guys I have to go to work. You wanna come?" "No they aren't going anywhere with you." My mother said coming out of nowhere. "Oh I didn't know you were home." "Yeah I am. So you can stop playing mother." "Who's playing? I act like a mother more than you." "Whatever I take care of my kids." "Please you mean you swallow your kids. I take care of my brothers." She sent a slap across my face. Then spit on me. "Get your hoe ass out my house. Before my man come and take them with you. I don't want y'all in here." I bit my cheek nodding. "Let's go y'all." They got up and followed me.
I was still fighting the urge to cry. Not in front of my brothers I won't do that. "You okay Asia?" Jaden asked. I nodded. "Yeah I'm okay. Well we're here." I'll just have them help me take care of the little preschoolers. "I'll help you set up." Dre said. "I'll be by the door to sign them in." I love my brothers they're so helpful. I set up the tables and put out lesson plans. I watched as Dre made sure everything was clean and disinfected the toys. We did all this on Friday but you always gotta be sure. I went outside and wiped down the playground. I started to cry. I really can't take this. That woman is the devil. I hate being in a toxic household. "Asia...You okay?" Dre asked. "Oh yeah Um I'll be in there in a minute." I said quickly wiping my face and putting on a smile. He nodded going back inside. I made sure I was good then went back inside. To see Mateo smh. "Hey." "Um hi." "Nia said you'd be working by yourself. So I came to help." "I got my brothers I'll be okay but thanks." "Nope I'm staying. Let me take your brothers to school." "They don't have school today." "Oh well let me take them somewhere." "No they're fine right here." "Where's mommy?" Noah asked coming in holding onto Jilly's hand. "She's at home remember." "Oh why?" "Ask her when you go home. Hey girll." She said walking over to hug me. "Hey." "Mateo what you doing here?" "I'm tryna help her stubborn ass." "Leave this poor girl alone." I giggled. "Wassup ma." Dre said sizing Jilly biting his lip. Jesus. "Oop who's this?" "She has a boyfriend." I butted in. "Can we go with her?" "Um no." "Yeah take them Jill. Take them somewhere fun." "Okay lets go." "What?" "Bye Asia." "See you later." With that they left. "Don't worry she'll come back." "I..i..umm." "It's okay. I don't really like kids but I'll help. Noah what you do first?" "Carpet." He said smiling." Mateo nodded. Eventually more kids came in and Mateo had them at the carpet singing. I decided to join in. "Okay lets play Simon says. Everybody stand up." "Simon says touch your toes."
The day went on pretty fast. Mateo sucked as a teacher but he was definitely good company. The kids really loved him. Eventually it was time to for them to leave. "Well let's clean this shit up." He said. "Can I go outside?" Noah asked. "No stay in here. You can watch tv." He nodded as I put Netflix on and turned to a movie.
"You should let me take you out." "Mateo I'm really busy right now..I'm trying to move my brothers out of my moms house. I don't want to be rude but once I get my stuff together I'm gone." "I fuck with that. My parents got burned to death and me and my sister split. And I've seen some fucked up shit from some parents. So if you need to leave I'll help." "No Mat- he cut me off with a kiss. I hesitated at first but then I gave in. Butterflies filled my stomach. I don't even know how long we were kissing. "Wow." I heard instantly pulling back to see Jaden, Dre and Jilly. I turned my face to hide the embarrassment. "You don't gotta be embarrassed. We all kissed someone before." Jaden said. "Who you kissed?" He's only 8 what the hell. "Don't worry about that." "Yeah we want to see you happy." Dre added. "And Mateo obviously ain't giving up." Jilly said. We laughed. "What's funny?" Noah said out of nowhere. "Boy mind yo business." Jilly said. "Uncle Trey said- "No whatever you said I don't want to hear it." "But- "No." he huffed then went back to the movie. Jaden went to watch it with him. "So you two gon be a thing or?" "It's up to her." No no no no. I can't get distracted. "Asia." Jilly said. They were all waiting for a response.
"Umm..well..." Just then Nia walked in. "Thank God." I mumbled to myself. "Why y'all surrounding her?" "Mommyyy!" Noah ran. "I'm sorry I couldn't come in earlier. I hope Mateo acted right." "He did mommy they kissed." "Oh did they?" He nodded. "Well my work here is done." Jilly said. "You need a ride home?" Mateo asked. "Um.." Nia and Jilly nodded vigorously. "Yeah I mean if you don't have anything else to possibly do." Dre shook his head. "Asia come." Nia said. I went to where she was. "Here I know it's not pay day but I just wanted to give you something." She gave me an envelope. "You know you can talk to me about what's going on. I'm here for you. I'm not here to judge or anything I've been through it too. So just know you can talk to me. You can trust me and those two." I nodded. "Thank you Nia. It means a lot." We hugged then me and my brothers left with Mateo.
