Chapter XXXI

"Scarlett, you need to be upstairs before the moon comes up, what are you doing here?" Hayden asked, looking worried.

"Cut the crap, why the fuck is Xavier in chains?"

"Get to your room." Hayden replied, completely ignoring my question.

"I'm not moving until you give me a goddamn answer!" I was feeling annoyed.

Hayden growled frustratedly, "It's not my damn place to tell you. You can ask Xavier after three days, now get going!"

I crossed my arms in front of me, raising my brow at Hayden.

A challenge.

"I will literally pick you up and lock you upstairs if I have to Scarlett, don't push me there." He threatened.

"Please, just tell me." I whispered looking down. I wanted to argue with him but the heat was really taking a toll on me - physically and emotionally.

He sighed heavily, "It's for you."

I looked back up, listening patiently.

"The books mentioned a few others trying to do what he is doing right now- staying away from  their female, but we're going the extra mile. It's not just about your heat Scarlett, he's going to want to mark you and he'll go through hell to just get there. You don't even realize it, but you're already releasing a scent and the moon isn't even up yet. Please hurry and get upstairs, we're going to have to guard this floor as well." He explained as he gestured up the stairs.

I wanted to slap some sense into Xavier and wanted to comfort him at the same time.

Even though I wanted to stay here and have him explain just what exactly was going on, I could notice the number of men and women increasing on this floor.

"Alright, but if you ever keep something like this from me again, I won't forgive you." I said as I finally left the room, using the lift to get to my floor.

I had had enough stairs for an entire lifetime.

What was I to do for three whole days, all alone?

That night, I busied myself on a phone call with Zeke. He had been a great distraction from my current dilemma but the moment I cut the phone, the reality of my situation crashed down on me.

All I could thing about was Xavier.

I was laying in bed, wondering what his lips would feel like against my skin, his hands gliding across my skin.
