Chapter III
~ Scarlett Ruse ~
After the eventful night I had had, I slept like a baby. Alas, my slumber was disturbed by the loud noises of a day in full swing.
Last night, I had come back to the pack house instead of going back to my own house and right now, I was regretting that very decision. I could hear the excited squeaks of teenagers and their explosive laughter. I wonder what that was all about.
Groaning loudly, I tried to block out all the noises with my pillow. Failing miserably, I let out a frustrated sigh before pushing myself off of the bed.
Walking in to the attached bathroom, I splashed cold water on my face before heading to the kitchen, not bothering with my messy hair. My raven colored hair was untamable and I had long given up on trying to make it look decent.
Once I was in the kitchen, I could feel the zeal in the air. Everybody was busy chatting animatedly with each other.
"What's up with the chatter?" I asked Stacey, one of my pack mates.
"You don't know?" She asked, the surprise clear in her voice. I shook my head.
"The coronation of our king is next week!" She exclaimed happily. Well, that explains it.
"Oh!" I said.
"Yes. Have you picked out your gown for the ball?" She questioned excitedly.
"Uh...yes. I'm thinking of going to pick it up today!" I lied, "How about you?"
"Of course! I had my dress customized. I want to look perfect for this ball! What if I find my mate!?" She squeaked enthusiastically.
"Yeah." I replied with a small smile.
That made me wonder, what if I found my mate? Even though I'm twenty three years old, I don't think I'm ready yet. The thought of having a mate made me shiver. The concept of being bonded to someone for life scares me shitless. I'd rather do my own thing.
"Stacey? What all events are there?" I asked curiously.
Hearing my question, her eyes lit up, "Well, since the coronation is in a week from now, we'll be flying out in the next four days. The first day, we're going to get time to see the sights that Venice has to offer. The second day, we'll have the coronation and the day after that, a masquerade ball in honor of the new KING!!"
"Awesome." This was going to be a long weekend. The only reason I was willing to go was because Venice was a beautiful place and I wanted to see who the seven alphas were.
Leaving the pack house, I decided to go to the beach.
I could smell the salt from the sea before I actually saw it. I removed my shoes and let the warm sand silts stick to my feet. Walking over to the lapping waves, I sat down.
Most mornings, the beach was empty, today was no exception. I sighed happily. Silence, at last.
After sitting there for a while, I started talking to the ocean. It was an old habit of mine. For some reason, knowing that the ocean was listening to my useless banter made me feel happy. It was somewhat like therapy for me I suppose.
It was starting to get really hot outside so I walked back to my house.
Mom was sitting on the bench outside the house with a newspaper spread open.
"Good morning mom." I greeted her, before placing a light kiss on her forehead.
She smiled, "Good morning my little angel."
"Angel? She's a little devil." I heard my sister's voice retort from inside the house. I simply rolled my eyes.
"Honey, your sister is going shopping for her gown today. Would you like to join her?" Mom asked.
"I'll pass."
"Thank the lord." Said Rose.
"I'll go with Zeke." I told my mom before going inside. I really needed a cold shower. The weather was starting to get really humid.
Before taking a shower, I called Zeke. After a few rings, he picked up his phone.
"Hey Scar."
"Hey Zeee."
"What's up hon? Why you callin'?" Zeke asked.
"Wanna go shopping for the ball?"
I heard Zeke squeak from the other side, "Uh, Yes!!"
"Great, meet me in half an hour." With that, I cut the call and hopped right into the shower.
I neatly placed a set of fresh garments on my bed before stepping into the bathroom. Stripping out of my sweaty clothes, I hastily stepped into the shower. Enjoying the cool streams running down my sides, I leisurely took my time. It was almost the end of July and the heat was nearly unbearable.
Once my skin started to prune, I decide it would be better to get out. Wrapping a grey towel around my body, I dried my body with the fluffy cloth.
Throwing on a pair of blue denim shorts and a plain white top, I hopped down the stairs.
Zeke was already present in the dinning room. My dearest mother and him were gossiping about the coronation but stopped when they noticed my presence.
"Ready?" I asked as I fully entered the kitchen.
