Chapter XXXVIII

Scarlett's POV

When Xavier had proposed we play a game, I was a little more than eager to go along with it. As much as I denied it, I actually quite enjoyed teasing him.

When he started counting down I couldn't help but think 'game on'.

Been a competitive person since day one.

I made sure to roam around a bit, making sure my scent was all over the place so he wouldn't be able to locate me easily.

Then, checking a few places to hide where I could easily escape from and make a dash from, I finally decided to hide.

Slowing down my breathing to almost nothing, I peaked my ears in the direction of his footsteps.

He was being sneaky too, barely making any noise at all.

If I hadn't been such a keen player as a kid, I would've missed his heartbeat.

With heightened sense, I kept moving around whenever he was close.

Making sure to be as stealthy as I could, I would move with excitement zapping through my veins.

Call me silly, but it was fun.

I'd always select a place of hiding from where I could see him but in my excitement I was now hiding in a blind spot.

Hard to find someone here, but almost impossible to escape.

It had been a good 5 minutes and I couldn't help but feel proud.

When I heard some  noise, I peeked from behind my spot to see what had fallen over.

Seeing nothing, I turned back around only to come face to face with Xavier, grinning like a mad man.

I let out a scream as I tried to run from under his arm.

As if prepared for my move, his arms snaked around my waist, pulling my into his body.

"Gotcha little mate." He whispered next to my ear making goosebumps rise on my neck.

"Fine! Fine!" I said, as I shrugged my shoulders nonchalantly.

He slowly let his arms drop back to his side and just as he did, I made a dash around his body.

"I'm still winning." I shouted over my back as I ran around the place.

"And how's that?" He called back, his voice a little to close for someone who was chasing another.

"Gotta say 'tag'!" I turned a cover, skidding and sliding, doing almost everything to gain speed.

I had barely gotten my sentence out when Xavier pulled me by my arm, spinning me mid run.
