Chapter XLIII
Scarlett Ruse
After the two guests had dispersed, Xavier announced that he wanted to talk to me alone. Everyone else in the room left as well except Zeke.
He stood his ground with his arm around my shoulder.
"Him too." He said.
Zeke looked at me, searching for any signs of resistance. When he found none, he gently squeezed my shoulder whispering in my ear, "I'll be just a shout away."
I rolled my eyes as he walked away, adding an extra sway to his hips while passing Xavier.
Just the two of us in the room, I finally looked over at him.
I was afraid to know how he felt.
I knew he wanted to talk to me about what happened inside the room, why I even went there in the first place.
As I stood there waiting for him to shoot me with an array of questions, I was surprised when he walked up to me and embraced me in a hug instead.
Slowly, I wrapped my arms around his abdomen as well, my emotions finally getting the best of me.
I let out a little sob.
I missed everyone back home. Everything was moving so fast. I was just so confused. What was I doing? What was going to happen with us? Why were we mates? He needed someone reliable and patient - I was anything but.
I wasn't insecure, just sad.
I knew I was enough, but we both belonged to different worlds. I wanted to dance, he wanted to rule an empire. The difference was impeccably immaculate.
Now I had just complicated matters by walking into that room.
At that moment I was compelled to put my hand on the door, not seeing any way out. It called out to me.
"Shh, it's okay." Xavier whispered softly as he smoothed a hand on my back, "I'm right here."
Before I could reply, he picked me up.
