Olivia
A car pulled up outside my house and I guessed it was Van. I pulled my leather jacket over my shoulders and threw on a pair of black ankle boots to match my high waisted skinny jeans and an old pogues t-shirt that was tucked into my jeans. I was feeling extra tonight so I put on some red lipstick before I ran out to Vans car.
"Y'alright liv?" He said as I climbed in, nobody ever called me liv apart from my sister, it was nice. He had one hand on the wheel and the hand closest to me resting on the handbrake with a pair of sunglasses and a leather jacket on looking like he just walked off the set of an old film. I've known him 4 days, 4 fucking days. Why am I so attracted to him? The cut in his lip was still pretty prominent but it added to the whole 'bad boy' character he was playing in my head, every time he moved his face slightly a dimple appeared on his cheek.
"Right so everyone will introduce themselves to you but Larry's the small one and he's my best mate but he's crap at music so he's our guitar tech" The car came to a halt as he turned to face me, unbuckling his seatbelt. "Just warning you so you don't ask and he'll get all offended cause he's shit"
Out we stepped and wandered into Van's garage where I could hear a group of boys chatting, I was suddenly so nervous. What if they didn't like me and vans just brought me here? Is this all a joke or does Van actually want me to come listen to them? All these thoughts disappeared when I stepped inside and the 4 boys came and gave me a welcome hug. They were so friendly and welcoming, especially Bondy. I sat down on the plastic chair that was empty as Larry passed me a bottle of Budweiser from the fridge joking about how they don't have any girly drinks but I didn't mind, I was more of a beer person than a wine and champagne person anyway.
"My girlfriend Liz will be here in a few minutes Olivia, she always goes on about how she's always stuck with a group of boys so she'll be buzzing you're joining us tonight." Benji was sat back on one of the chairs typing away into his phone, I'm guessing to his girlfriend, he spoke about her with a smile on his face which gave me the impression they were proper in love.
The speaker on one of the shelves started blasting 'cavorting' by courteeners to which we all jumped out our skin, Van gave Larry a right boot in the back of his leg to which he just giggled. It started playing again, this time at a normal volume that didn't deafen any of us. Scattered across the floor were cables and different loop pedals, there was a drum kit in the corner and 6 guitars leaning against the wall.
"Van said your dad was in a band" Said Bondy, he was polite and definitely one of the more mature ones.
"Yeah but not like this, they were the type band that got hired for weddings 'nd stuff not one that would sign to a record label. The Green Lions is what they were called" His eyes widened as soon as I mentioned the name as if it rung a bell for him.
"They played at my mum 'n dads wedding, you're dads Scottish is he?" I nodded my head in response but before I had the chance to say anything the door opened and a tall blonde girl made her way over to me with open arms so I stood up to return the hug she was about to give me.
"I'm liz nice to meet you, been waiting so long for the day another girls here to keep me company. Van she's so much prettier than you said she was!" Vans face blushed pink and Larry and bob both gave him a nudge. I couldn't tell whether that meant he told them I was horrendous looking or the opposite.
"Well I told Liv we'd show her a few tunes of the balcony before we finish recording it so off your arses lids" The four of them stood up and took their places and I was able to piece together who did what.
Vans voice was beautiful and the songs they played were so beautifully written. As he sung them the more I remember the conversation we had last night about his ex and I began to make the connections. They were all so talented, much more talented to what I was used to with my dad's band. Catfish and the Bottlemen were going to go far, there was no question about it.
"What'd you think then liv?" Hearing him constantly refer to me as liv always brought a smile to my face.
"Yous are bloody ace!" I said back, a massive smile appeared on Vans face and he picked up a beer and sat on the seat next to me where Bondy was sat before. Everyone drifted off into their own conversations when Larry put the music back on. Vans side profile was the definition of perfect and seeing him sing and play the guitar as well as knowing he wrote all those songs made him 10 times more attractive. Me and Scott only finished a week ago and I've known Van for practically 5 minutes but god he was stunning. Scott was into like techno music and shit so I never really had anyone with similar music taste to me until now, my sister was so in to the charts and stuff which should be a crime. The music they played was right up my street and it was clear the passion they had for it was enormous.
"Coming for a ciggy?" He asked, finishing what was left in the bottle. I nodded my head and we wandered outside, Van took the empty bottle from my hand and chucked it in the bin with his one. He lifted a lighter up to the cigarette in his mouth and lit it, once again he looked like he had just walked off of an old film set, his hair was long but his eyes were piercing blue. I really need to stop thinking about how attractive he is.
