Lightning strikes in the clouds above, the sky's thunder replied. Soon enough, rain dropped and smashed down into the pavements as her thin clothes were now considered drenched by the rain.
The others ran away from the rain, trying to find a shelter as fast as they could, leaving her to wander alone like a soulless person looking for a purpose.
"Miss! Are you okay?" Someone called out to her. It was an old lady carrying a basket full of fruits and vegetables.
She just looked at her and continued stumping her feet in a muddy hole and staring blankly to it. Little did she know that the bus she'd been waiting was already in front of her.
"Miss, will you get in?" the bus driver called out her attention before it left the station.
She immediately hopped in upon seeing the sign board going to San Diego.
"You're heading to San Diego, Miss?" Once more, it was the old lady sitting beside her and asking her again. Out of respect, she just nodded effortlessly.
"But we've already passed San Diego few hours ago. You seem so distracted to have not heard it. If you want, you can come with me and stay for the night." the old woman offered.
It took few moments for her to even register the offer the old woman gave to her before she slowly nodded. With her approval, she was quickly taken to the mansion.
"Go wash yourself." The old woman commanded, motioning her to the bathroom as she handed her a towel and bathrobe. "Don't worry; I'm living alone at this place."
She had no time to admire the place and its surroundings as she nodded to the woman. The old lady just smiled at her despite of the attitude she gave. When she was about to step in the bathroom and the old woman is still watching her to step inside, she unconsciously uttered the words "Thank You" in a very soft manner. She thought the old woman would not hear it but she was surprised when she got a reply.
"Remember to turn off the lights once you've finished freshening up." She instructed before closing the door going to the kitchen.
She didn't say anything more as she moved over to the bathroom, readying the hot shower. Once she had finished, she dried off her hair and turned off the lights and thrown herself onto the bed, letting the cushions swallow up her petite frame.
It was still raining heavily outside. Afraid of the thunder and lightning, she couldn't sleep well despite of her fully cushioned bed. The silence of the room was already starting to unnerve her. Her heart started to beat fast in her chest but she tried her best to calm down.
Time seemed to be at a standstill. It was already three o'clock in the morning as she looked at the clock actively clicking near the lamp. Suddenly, she heard a creek sound of the old staircase she walked in to her room a while ago. She thought it was still her imagination when the door slightly opened. She quickly closed her eyes thinking that she was being ghosted in the room.
Few moments later, she felt a tall figure approaching to her and it made her grasped the sheets unconsciously. Her body was already shaking at the thought of the tall figure with her in the room.
Suddenly, lightning flashed across the window. Just then, she realizes that it's already morning and the old woman was staring at her. She was just dreaming, she thought to herself. She hurriedly fixed her bed and followed down the woman for breakfast.
