Selah saw her grandma shook her head sadly, looking at her with remorse in her eyes. She walked over to her who was sitting on the chair and hugged the old woman from her back.

“I’m sorry dear.” She whispered unto her with eyes welling up tears.

“It’s okay grandma.” Her voice broke.

She dug her teeth into her lip, stifling the sob she wanted to escape.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you from her.” Her grandma continued.

She didn’t answer instead continue hugging her. They sat there for a while. She was about to walk straight to her room when her grandma uttered the words she couldn’t imagine to be heard from her.

“He’ll be here in two hours. Go pack your things.” She uttered.

“No! I’m not leaving! I’m old enough to protect myself and you, grandma.” She screamed while tears welling up to her face.

“You don’t know her Selah. She could do anything under her power to harm you or anyone. I had no other choice, dear.” Her grandma explained convincingly.

“Yes you did! You don’t trust me enough, don’t you?” she continued.

“You know that’s not true.” she whispered to her.

“I told you, I can protect you or even myself over her. Just don’t make me leave.” Selah begged to her.

“It’s not simple as you think, dear.” With that, Selah’s eyes were defeated by her. Something is certainly wrong. But she can’t figure it out. She just breathes out quietly after she felt a defeat from her. She tried to plead to her but her decision is final.

Selah’s grandma might be old and not blood-related to her but whenever she tried to contradict or argue with her to any decision, she is always reminded by her dad’s words before he died. “Don’t argue with her or even contradict any of her decision. Promise me that, Selah.” All she could do that time is to give him peace and happiness before he passed away. Thus, until now, she’s still living to that promise she made to him a decade ago.

She didn’t argue with her decision after realizing her dad’s last words. Instead, she turned to her and hugged her tight. This feeling is uncomfortable for her since she never been expressive for the past ten years of her life.

She went to her room to pack some clothes and other necessities. After that, she stood near the glass door in her small balcony area. Perhaps it would take for a while before she could return to this place again.

“Selah, he’s here. Let’s go downstairs.” Her grandma standing outside her door called her.

She just nodded, letting her knew that she heard her. She went to her bed and grabbed her bag and other things she packed and followed her downstairs. She refused to let anyone see her state- weak. She ignored the pain in her chest. She stood cold as Lilo approached to her with a worried look. Even though, she did not speak and only looked away.

“Are you okay?” he softly asked while walking with her to the parking lot. He shrugged looking expectantly to her for an answer. But she refused to answer. She ignored him all throughout their ride back to the mansion. He drove with total silence aside from the time to time honking at the crossroads.
