The night in New Zealand was freezing cold. The chilly breeze blew upon their face on their way back to the hotel. She stared aimlessly into the wind shield of the car as snow falling into it. The coldness of the night and the silence inside the car saddened her. She rhythmically tapped her phone absentmindedly. She looked bothered with her own thoughts.
Things went out of control when suddenly a car from their back overtaken them. The car moved Segway and almost hit a post. Fortunately, Lilo was quick enough to control the break. But, Selah was hit in her forehead. The lady started to panic when there’s a drop of blood to her phone but Lilo tried to calm her down. Her throbbed steadily even Lilo sensed it from her. She was obviously scared of blood.
“Lilo”, she murmured his name unconsciously until the image of him vanished in the dark. Upon waking up, she was already lying on her bed with a stitch on her forehead. She saw Lilo sitting in the sofa reading and waiting for her to wake up. Her mind was a mess after the incident. However, it slowly flashed to her mind.
“How are you? Are you okay? Do you feel any dizziness or strange feeling?” he continuously asked. Though he won’t tell, she knew he was worried of what had happened. Lilo was about to ask her again when she noticed that her clothes were changed. Her face was twisted back to Lilo’s worried face. The overwhelming hate devoured her. No one ever do such stupid things to her like changing her clothes and taking advantage of her unconscious state. She closed her eyes and stumped her feet on the floor. She was agitated and didn’t have a clue how to ask him or what to do next.
“What’s wrong?” he asked while approaching her.
Instead of answering back, she slapped him and that made the man so shocked and reddened.“What’s wrong with you!” he shouted. This time, he couldn’t content his anger and worried to her. He didn’t know that such pliant girl like her could actually be capable of slapping him that hard that made his face reddened.
‘Do you think it’s funny? Do you think I’m playing with you? Do you think you own me after saying yes to that deal? Do you think you can treat me as how you pleased? I’m not that woman Lilo!” she shouted and almost crying after saying all these things.
Lilo was shocked at her. He couldn’t calm her down. She was furiously angry at him. Selah made up her mind. Though she won’t be backing out of the marriage for the sake of the resort and all, she promised to herself that no one would be taking any advantage to her- even him. She grabbed her used clothes and went back to her room crying. She covered herself with the blanket and cried as much as her heart content.
Lilo came knocking outside but she didn’t bother to open the door for him or entertain any excuse or explanation he has. The long night in New Zealand is freezing cold but Selah couldn’t feel any of it. Her lips curled bitterly as she remembered all things she went through with him.
The sun shone brightly the next day but all she could feel is coldness and anger at him. They didn’t talk on their way to the airport. She booked her flight separately with him after she got the money transferred to her from the resort. In her mind, she convinced herself that the only thing she can do for him is appear on their wedding ceremony and have her signature in their marriage certificate. Apart from that, she promised to herself to never do anything related to him outside that contract.
She had absolutely a bad impression to Lilo after that trip. She thought they could at least be friends to make things easy for them. She realized he was indeed a complete stranger. Trying to know him is indeed a complete and utter joke in her life. She buried her face deep in her palms while waiting for her flight.
On the other side, Lilo was also waiting for his flight. He was waiting for his co-pilot to arrive at the airport. As soon as they arrived, they immediately went inside even though Franco noticed Selah in the terminal. He blamed himself for the incident where Selah hurt herself but he couldn’t accept the fact that she slapped him just because he was taking advantage to her. He tried to explain himself that night but she didn’t entertain any of his explanation. On their way to the airport, he as trying to have a conversation with her but he noticed she wouldn’t entertain any of those after sitting at the backseat of the car. He was also messed up but tried to control his anger since he still has a flight to operate. He just wished she won’t decide hastily to back out to their deal. If that happened, it would be a different story.
It was already one o’clock before Selah arrived at the airport. She asked her grandma to send someone to pick her up at the airport. She waited for some time after her driver arrived.
“How’s your flight, Miss Selah? You’re grandma sent me to fetch you. Do you have any luggage with you?” her driver asked.“None, let’s go.” She effortlessly replied.
Looking at the mirror above the driver’s seat, she noticed that the man’s face was a bit worried to her. Perhaps it’s because of the stitch on her forehead. Deep lines were stretching on his forehead and crinkling the corner of his eyes as he from time to time glanced at her.
“We have arrived, Miss.” The driver finally said as he made a u-turn to the parking lot of the resort. Her grandma welcomed her with a worried face but she showed a cold expression to her so the old woman didn’t anymore bother to ask. She understood.
