“How is Selah’s doing inside? Is she already asleep?” Eli asked Lilo while approaching him from the inside.

“Yeah, she’s asleep already.” He simply replied.

“So, what’s your plan? Will you take her to that party?” he asked with so much concern in his eyes.

“I don’t know. She said she can handle it. But, after what happened tonight, I’m not sure she can.” Lilo said.

“Last time, you told me that Selah is a tough person inside and out. Upon seeing her expression a while ago, I think she’s not.” Eli continued.

“I don’t know if she’s just faking it or she might be really weak inside. Perhaps, her cold aura is just her defense mechanism towards me before. But lately, she’s being good that’s why you said that.” He explained.

“Yeah, that’s true. Looking back the first time I met her at the bar sitting alone at the corner, I can say that she’s a bit scary to look at. I can’t even stand her glaring eyes and cold facial expression.” He said.

“I don’t really know. I asked her before to try to loosen up her attitude. I’m not happy seeing her wearing a cold face all day. She tried to loosen up and I proved that lately. The way she talked, looked and even questioned me is different than our first meeting. But now, I think I regret asking that to her.” Lilo added.

“Just let her be. Maybe she really knew how to handle situations. If you want to know, then bring her to the party.” Eli convinced him.

“I’m not sure about it Eli. I’m not really sure.” He finally said.

Eli drank his last can of beer while Eli stared at the pool.

“Let’s better change the topic.” Eli said.
“About what?” he asked.

“How did you met her?” he asked again.

“It’s a long story dude.” Lilo convinced him not to ask anymore.

“Try me. I still have a beer here.” He replied.

“Officially, I met her since I was seven and perhaps she’s around four?” he first shared.

“Oh, cool! So, you’re saying that you both knew each other since childhood days.” Eli curiously asked.

“I’m not exactly sure about it. She might not remember either.” He said.

“Please continue, I’m listening. How did you end up marrying her?” he asked.

“It’s quite complicated. Ten years ago, her dad and my father were good business partners. I’ve heard a lot about Mr. Cervantes from my dad. Unfortunately, he got sick and bedridden for almost two years. That made their company led to bankruptcy. But my dad has been good to their family. He asked for the resort’s title to save it from its loss. In return, my father gave them the amount they needed that time. Little did I know, my father asked for her daughter’s hand in case I won’t end up marrying someone in my 30’s.” he shared.

“So, you mean, you were arranged by uncle for marriage?” he surprisingly asked.

“Sort of, because maybe he’s just too concern that I may not find someone to be married before I turned thirty. If that’s the case, I won’t surely get my inheritance.” He explained.

“Did you meet her just this year?” he asked.

“Yes. I tried to find her in the city for five years. Unfortunately, my travel schedule is too demanding that I hardly find time to search for her. Until one night, my grandma found her in the bus terminal kind of lost. My grandma grabbed that chance so she asked her to stay at the mansion for a night. I was on a domestic flight those days. She called me immediately that night that Selah is finally home.” He continuously shared.

“Thanks to your grandma, then. But, how did you convince her to marry you if you’re saying that she’s a bit tough in your first meeting.” Eli asked.

“I must say she’s nowhere to go to that time. This may sound bad but I took an advantage of her weakness. She knew that my family bought the resort ten years ago from his dad. Since I observed how desperate she is to get back the resort, I ask her hand for marriage in exchange for the resort’s title. At first she decline but it was her mom who pushed her to get in the situation she has right now.” He said.

“What about her mom?” Eli simply replied.

“Though I just met her few days ago after setting an appointment with me, I can say that they don’t have a good relationship with each other. Her mom abandoned them after her father’s company got bankrupt. She left them for a divorced business man. As much as she wanted to avoid her mom after her dad passed away, she was unfortunately hired by a company where her mom is the CEO. “ he said.

“So, she continued working under her mom’s company?” he asked.

“Left with no choice, she continued working there for years until she couldn’t handle it anymore and that made her resigned for work. It was against her mom’s decision since she’s one of the assets in the advertising department. She has great skills in advertising no wonder she was easily hired at the airport.” He continued.

“She might be really tough, Lilo. Your story told it so.” He finally said.

“Yeah, perhaps she is. But, I’m still worried that she can’t bear the insult of my aunt. Her eyes were totally investigative to Selah. Knowing about her family history, she can do whatever she wanted to belittle her.” Lilo said to Eli.

“Wait? Are you afraid she might ask for an annulment any time soon?” Eli curiously asked.

“Perhaps, but it’s not only about that. Despite of our arranged marriage, I’m getting comfortable to her. Though we’re not living like normal couples do but I was already contented having a wife though just in paper and in public’s eyes.” He shared.

“Ooohhhh, that is something strange for you to say, dude. Are you finally falling for her?” he curiously asked with his eyes teasing him.

“Come on, Eli! You know me very well. I didn’t settle for just mere feelings. I’m always the higher bound.” He confidently said.

“So, you’re not yet falling for her?” he tried to confirm from him.

“I don’t know. I don’t either have the time to confirm it.” He said.

“Don’t lose her, dude. She’s so much more for a woman. “ he finally said.

“I’m trying to. I hope I can.” He finally said.
Eli went inside to change his shirt. Lilo just stayed at the pool area trying to think back and remember everything he said to Eli that night. He let out a small sigh and drank his beer. Maybe the alcohol pushed him to say those things to Eli or maybe he don’t want it to keep for himself any longer. He just stared down to the pool water blinking by the lights.
