After a visit from the lake, Selah and Lilo went back to the house. There, they saw a couple standing and waiting for them outside. While approaching to them, Lilo smiled and waved his hand to the couple as they responded the same to them.
“Good day sir! We prepared drinks for you inside and the kitchen as how you asked to us. The room is clean for Miss Selah to rest for a bit.” The woman said to him.
“Thank you.” He simply replied.
“We go ahead sir. Please enjoy the rest of the afternoon.” Her husband said as they bid goodbye to Lilo.
They went directly to the kitchen to grab some drink and delicacies prepared to them.
“After this you can take a rest upstairs. I’ll call if our meal is ready.” He said while taking a bite of the delicacies at the counter opposite to Selah.
“I’m not tired.” She replied.
“Well, if not, you can stroll outside. Just don’t go too far.” He calmly replied.
“Can I stay here.” She said while roaming her eyes to the kitchen.
“With me?” he surprisingly asked.
“Why not? Am I not allowed to stay here in your kitchen?” she curiously asked.
“Of course not! It’s just that I’m surprised you chose to stay.” He said while looking away from her.
They were both busy in the kitchen. Selah washed the vegetables and sliced them as how Lilo instructed to her. Looking at them, they surely enjoyed what they are doing right now.
Lilo suddenly asked for a pepper to add to the dish he currently cooking. Selah was a bit confused where she would get it. But Lilo pointed it out to her. Lilo’s family might prefer hot and spicy food unlike her. But to her surprise, he simply added a small amount of it making it lighter in taste.
“Why did you add a small amount of pepper? You prefer spicy food, right? I noticed it the first time I dine with you and grandma.” She said calmly while staring at the dish.
“Yeah, but you don’t prefer spicy food, right?” he asked.
She simply nodded in response.
“You always do that. Sometimes, I hate it.” He said while referring to here gesture.
She simply smiled while still staring at the dish.
“I just don’t know how to communicate to others well.” She continued.
“But at least try. There’s no harm anyway.”  He asked to her.
She smiled again in response.
“I like you when you’re smiling. It gives me confidence to talk to you.” He said.
“Why? Do I look terrible when I’m not?” she continued to ask.
“It’s not like that. But, honestly, you look a bit scary when you’re wearing that cold face.” He replied.
“I’ll try to make it even scarier than this time.” She said and this time she softly laugh at him.
Lilo didn’t comment about her laugh thinking that she might get awkward to it. They set the table and enjoyed their lunch. In the middle of their meal, Lilo asked her.
“How’s the dish? Is it good enough for your taste?” he asked waiting for an answer.
“I’m not a food critique. I don’t know about food taste. I lost my taste when my father passed away due to depression. Until now, I’m still covering it.” She hesitantly shared to him. Lilo got surprised and curious about it.
“But how come that you know I prefer spicy dish?” he continued asking her.
“I have a keen sense of smell. Though my tongue can’t figure out the taste, my sense of smell is so sensitive.” She replied.
“I see. So all this time you’re eating various foods but you can’t enjoy it?” he asked.
This time she nodded again and continued eating her food.
There were no servants in their house aside for the couple who visited them a while ago. So, they were both busy again in the kitchen after they eaten their lunch. Selah take charge of washing the plate while next to her is Lilo washing the pans and casserole they used for cooking. They washed the dishes quietly. After that, they rest for a bit in each other’s room prepared for them. They decided to rest for a bit and went back to the mansion before it gets dark outside.
