After Leila’s appointment with him, Lilo asked Leigh for a cup of coffee. He put his phone down and covered his eyes with his palm. Family can be draining sometimes, he thought to himself.
Typically, parents were supposedly overbearing to their children but in his case, it’s his aunts and other relatives who weren’t approved with his decision of marrying Selah. Until now, they’re still into Leila although it’s very clear for them that he’s already married for over six months now. He groaned and rubbed his temples while waiting for his coffee.
“Are you okay?” Selah asked her who has a cup of coffee in her hand.
“What brings you here? Why do you have my coffee?” he asked directly.
“I asked Leigh for some documents so I decided to bring your coffee to you instead of her.” She replied.
Lilo just nodded at her as she laid down the cup of coffee.
“Do you have water? She asked.
“Yeah, why?” he curiously replied.
“Did you bring your bag?” she asked again.
“Yeah, why?” he answered for the second time.
“Get some meds from your bag, I’ll get water for you before you have your coffee.” She simply replied.
Hesitantly, Lilo reached out for his bag and took his medicine box. Selah just poured him a glass of water.
“Thank you,” he just added.
Selah just responded with a smile. She allowed him to swallow the tablet before she continued.
“Can you still drive later to the department store?” she asked.
“Of course, I can. This is nothing serious.” He confidently said.
Selah was about to walk out in his office when suddenly he stood and walked towards her.
“Selah, I have something to tell you.” This made the woman to pause for a while and turn back at him.
“Is this about your conversation with your mom earlier?” she directly asked.
“Sort of, I just want to know if you want to come with me in that gathering.” He said.
“Why? You don’t want me to go there with you?” she asked him back.
“It’s not that I don’t want. I just want to avoid you to any negative comments about me not marrying what they preferred for me and their being suspicious of why of all women I’ve chosen you.” He explained.
“Well, I can’t blame them. I might think of that as well if I were them.” She replied.
“Selah…” he just said.
“You don’t need to explain Lilo. I totally understand it all. Even I, was sometimes confused why you’ve chosen me though given the fact you have better options with you.” She added.
“It sounds complicated, right? But, maybe because I’m trying to protect something I owned before.” He replied.
“What do you mean?” she asked with a cloudy reaction.
“It’s nothing.” He replied.
“So, what’s your decision? Shall we go to that party?” he asked her.
