I rushed over to my daddy and checked him out.

"Kai I'm not shot just got your mama blood on me."

"Daddy you need to go home and change shirts."

"I'm not leaving until I know what's going on with your mama."

"Where is she?"

"They rushed her into surgery because she lost too much blood and she flatlined in the ambulance."

"Wait you where's your car?"

"Your uncle Bully and auntie Kamiyah picked up my Maybach."

"What happened?"

My daddy told me everything that happened and I couldn't believe what I was hearing my own mother would shoot the woman who stepped up to help raise me when she didn't want to yeah any relationship she wanted to form is now dead now.

Justin walked over to us with a bag.

"I stopped by the gift shop to get you a clean shirt Mr. Brewster I figured you'll have blood on you and wouldn't leave the hospital."

"Thank you Justin."

My dad took the bag and got the shirt off and changed shirts.

"You called nana?"

"I did but I told her to stay home with the kids until I know more information on your mom."

"Okay."

A nurse walked over to us and I grabbed my daddy hand.

"The doctor was able to remove the bullet from her chest and she's getting a blood transfusion."

"Okay."

"I'll be back soon with an update."

"Thanks nurse."

The nurse nodded and walked away me and my daddy finally sat down and I laid my head on his shoulder.

"I don't see how you're holding it together daddy," I spoke as I teared back up.

"I have to Kai I gotta be strong for your mama and you."

I didn't say anything my daddy looked down and wiped my tears.

"She's going to be fine Kai."

"I know daddy but Milagrito had no reason to shoot at you and mama."

"I know."

A few officers walked up to us I sat up and my dad stood up and started answering their questions. I walked over to Justin and sat next to him.

"You think your dad is going to press charges?"

"Yep."

"Next time don't open that door."

"I know I know I just couldn't wait I had to get inside for my parents."

"I know."

"You can leave if you want Justin."

"Nah I'm staying here until we get an another update on Mrs. Brewster."

"Wait we?"

"Yeah we I'm staying here with you and Mr. Brewster."

"You know you gotta-," Justin cut me off.

"I already know and I will."

"Okay."

Justin wrapped his arm around me and I laid my head on his shoulder my dad shook hands with the officers then sat down and I watched as he just stared off into space. I let out a yawn and rubbed my nose my phone dinged I looked down seeing that Kaarim text me I responded back to him on what the nurse told us and I told him that I'll keep him updated.

Few hours later

I opened my eyes seeing bright lights I blinked a few times letting my eyes adjust finally realizing I'm at the hospital I sat up some.

"Hello Mrs. Brewster."

"Hello."

"I'm nurse Liza. Do you remember anything that happened?"

"My husband and myself met with our daughter biological mother things didn't go well and we ended up leaving. We was laughing and talking as we walked to his car then we heard a gun cock we turned seeing our daughter mother holding a gun I knew she was going to shoot my husband so I jumped in front of him taking a bullet to the chest."

"Do you know your husband and daughter name?"

"Dave and Kairi. Are they here?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Can you bring them in?"

"Yes ma'am let me elevate the bed for you."

"Okay."

Nurse Liza elevated the bed for me then she walked out of the room and I waited on my babies to come in. The door opened and Dave stood at the door I smiled at him.

"Don't just stand by the door."

Dave walked in further with Kairi and Justin behind him the door closed and Dave walked over to me.

"How you feeling?"

"Okay."

"You got shot in the chest."

"I know."

"When you flatlined in the ambulance I thought I lost you."

"I'm not going anywhere we're stuck with each other for forever."

Dave Hughes me lightly then he kissed me.

"I love you."

"I love you too baby."

"Come here my big baby."

Kairi walked over to me and sat next to me and I pulled her into a hug being careful.

"I thought you was leaving us mama."

"Never."

Kairi started to tear up and I wiped her eyes.

"Stop crying Kairi."

"I'm just happy that you're okay."

I sniffed and fanned my own eyes.

"No forreal I'm not trying to cry."

"Sorry mama."

"What's next," I asked looking at Dave.

"I already talked with the officers and told them that we want to press charges they'll going to keep me updated more than likely she's going to plead guilty if so we won't have to worry about going to court."

"Okay."

"I'm going to go call nana," Kairi stood up and walked out of the room with Justin right behind him.

Dave took off his shoes and I scooted over he wrapped his arm around me and I laid my head on his shoulder.

"This isn't the shirt you had on."

"Justin got this for me at the gift shop since the shirt I had on had blood all over it."

"Okay."

"You're going to be taking the next couple weeks off from work to make sure that you heal properly no work."

"Okay."

"You're not going to fight with me on this," Dave asked.

I looked up at Dave.

"No baby I'm not."

"Okay."

We kissed once more then I snuggled up next to Dave. I could've died today but I didn't God gave me a second chance to be here for my family and continue to raise my babies right. Whatever charges they give Milagrito she deserve every single one of them.
