Twenty-Nine

The next day

Dejah
Milagrito reached out to me wanting to have a sit down with myself and Dave after talking with Dave we both agreed to meet with her while the kids are in school. Honestly I really don't have anything to say to her I never came at her sideways or make Kairi look at her in a bad like she did that all on her own. Every since she found out that I've been in Kairi and Dave life she has been doing everything in her power to tear me and Dave apart even said bad things about me to Kairi that's something I've never did.

"Babe we're here," Dave spoke.

Dave got out and walked around to the passenger side he opened the door I got his hand and got out. Dave closed the passenger door back and locked his doors. We walked inside of Waffle House we spotted Milagrito and walked over to the table and sat down.

"Hey Dave and Dejah."

"Hey Milagrito."

"Wassup Millie."

I grabbed the menu and skimmed through it once I had my order I closed the menu back. The waiter came and took our orders then he got the menus and walked away. It was quiet for a few minutes until Dave spoke up.

"Why are we here?"

"Why did you two turn my daughter against me?"

Wow.

"I didn't turn Kairi against you your actions is what lead her to make her own decisions," Dave spoke.

"And I definitely didn't turn Kairi against you I always spoke positive and light about you even if you don't deserve it."

"Yeah right."

"I didn't anytime you wouldn't show up after promising Kai that you would I would always say something positive to her then I'll take her out and cheer her up."

"I thought that you called Dee to finally apologize to the both of us but I see nothing has changed with you our daughter is 18 years old 18 you've been in and out of her life," Dave spoke as he stood up.

"This meeting is over because we're not going to get anywhere I hope you get your shit together and soon Millie," Dave spoke as he walked towards the counter.

"Kairi made the decision to not have you in her life because of your actions not because of me and Dave if you would've been her mother instead of being her friend she would've respected you a long time ago but you made the decision to be her friend. Don't get me wrong we have our moments where we're like friends when Kairi wants to do something adventurous I'm all for it but at the end of it all Kairi knows that I'm the parent and she respect me as such."

She remained quiet as I stood up and grabbed my purse.

"I can't replace you as her birth mother but I did and still doing a damn good job at raising her something that you should've done but didn't want to do and don't contact us again."

I walked away from the table and met Dave over by the door.

"You good?"

"Of course lets go."

Dave nodded we walked out of Waffle House with our food in carry out containers. We continued to have small talk as we neared his Maybach.

We both heard a gun cock we turned around seeing Milagrito holding a gun at the both of us but more so at Dave.

"Put the gun down Millie."

She didn't respond instead she aimed the gun towards Dave chest and she fired the gun. Without thinking I jumped in front of Dave and fell to the ground.

Dave
The hell is wrong with Dejah somebody tackled Millie to the ground before she could shoot again. I dropped the food and bent down placing my hand on the gun shot wound.

"Somebody call 911!"

"Dejah baby look at me."

Dejah opened her eyes and looked at me.

"Why would jump in front of me?"

"I told you Dave I'll die for you and my kids."

I shook my head as the tears fell down my face.

"You're not dying baby you're not leaving us."

Dejah coughed.

"I love you."

"I love you too just hold on for me mama the ambulance is coming."

"I'm trying," Dejah gritted.

"Where's that fucking ambulance," I screamed.

"One minute out," someone from the crowd yelled.

I continued to talk to Dejah and keep her woke. The ambulance and police showed up the EMTs rushed over to us and I stepped back once one of them applied pressure to Dejah wound.

"Sir are you shot?"

"Nah I'm good."

They placed Dejah on the stretcher and rushed towards the ambulance and I followed behind them I got in and grabbed Dejah hand and wiped my eyes with my free hand.

Kairi
I was heading towards Starbucks when Justin rushed over to me.

"Hey Justin."

"Hey Kai."

"What's wrong?"

"Did you see the news."

I shook my head Justin sighed and showed me the news my mouth dropped.

"Is she okay?"

"I have no idea but we need to get to the hospital fast."

"I know."

"I took an Uber here figuring that you'll want me to drive for you."

"Please," I spoke.

I went in my purse and handed Justin my keys he opened the passenger door for me I thanked him and got in. I placed my bookbag in the back seat and put my seatbelt. Justin pulled off from the Starbucks and I remained silent as he drove saying a prayer for my mama.

My nerves is all around shot right now I can't even think straight.

"Kairi Mrs. Brewster is going to be fine."

I looked over at Justin and only nodded he wiped my tears and I smiled.

"Shit we're in a traffic jam."

"Get off on the next exit and take the back way."

Justin nodded he put the signal on for him to get over and we got off the exit.

I know my dad is in complete shambles right now my mom is his soulmate and better half without her my dad is nothing and vice verse they compliment each other so well that it's hard to picture either of them not with each other. I touched the locket that my mama got me on my 13th birthday and rubbed it some easing some of my nerves.

Within 20 minutes we was pulling up to the hospital Justin parked and I didn't rush no time with hoping out and calling my dad to see what floor they was on. I know I'm going to hear Justin mouth later about me opening my door but right now my focus is getting to my parents.
