"What exactly is it that I won't be stopping you from doing? What is it that you all plan on doing?" Maximus asked in a very demanding and strong tone as he looked at each of them standing in front of him and the rest of his pack. "What we have to in order to save my mate." Blaze said as he walked toward his father in a challenging way, ready to fight his pack if it came to it. "If what you all are about yo do is the only way to save her we don't want to know and we won't stop you." Maximus said as he led his pack back into the forest and away from town. Blaze, Ethel, Steve and Lilia wasted no time and began walking into town.
It was a big decision and not an easy one. They now had to decide who they would take to sacrifice. They had already been in town for about 20 minutes before a man approached them. "Take me." Those two words startled them as no one had expected it and no one was speaking loud enough so that anyone else could hear. "Sorry?" Ethel asked the man. He was a short man with ruffled hair, but what was most shocking was his eyes. He was blind. Where his eyes should be were only blank holes staring back at them. "I said take me. I can save her. I have lived long enough in this world and seen more than most even while being blind." The man spoke and you could here the years of knowledge in the way he spoke. "How do you know what we were talking about? We were barely talking above a whisper." Ethel asked the old man who stood before them. "Being born blind has its perks, for instance it enhances all the other senses. Touch, taste, smell and hearing. I heard everything that you all have said and I would be honoured to die saving the life of another." He said with confidence before Ethel spoke again. "But what about your family, your friends? Won't they miss you?" A sad look overcame the man as he bowed his head, but quickly stood straight and spoke again. "Sadly I have outlived them all, but take me and reunite me with them in death." For a moment all was quiet. Ethel, Steve, Blaze and Lilia looked at each other. The look that passed from each of them said it all and this time Steve was the one to speak. "If you are sure this is what you want then we will take you to her." The old man smiled and they began walking back to the house. The closer they got to the house the stranger this felt. For why would someone want to die, but no one stopped and soon they were walking into the house and towards Iris where she lay in her bedroom.
"She's so weak..." Blaze said as he held her hand while he woke her up. "Iris... Come let me help you sit up." Blaze helped her up and put her on his lap so that he could hold her up and make it easier for her to feed. "Hi Iris. My name is John. I am here to help you." And with that said he took the small blade that Lilia had brought up to them and made a small cut on his wrist and put it up to her mouth. As soon as Iris tasted the blood on her tongue she began to feed greedily and they all slowly watched as the life drained from the old man. Before he gave his last breath he spoke two simple words. "Thank you..." Then his heart stopped. Iris stopped feeding and fell asleep.
Everyone had left and they had buried the old man in the woods and put an inscription above his grave. Blaze had stayed with Iris and was laying with her as she slept. As he laid there with her in the bed so many thoughts ran through his head. The one that stood out was how she would handle it if she found out what the cost was for her to live. He knew she cherished the lives of others and that this might hurt her as this was the first innocent life that she had taken. Soon he too fell asleep as he held her against him.
