Shawn's POV
Brian and I are getting ready to walk out of the unit when I hear a loud scream in the distance, I don't think anything of it because quite frankly it's a normal occurrence on this unit. Walking by the frost desk I notice Tiffany and Camila are gone.
That's odd.
There's always supposed to be someone at the desk. Maybe they both had to use the restroom?
Something doesn't feel right, and the pit of my stomach starts to do somersaults. Brian looks over at me worried.
"Aren't the girls supposed to be there? It's after lunch." He asks me.
"Yeah....I know. Brian something doesn't feel right" I tell him as I'm trying to figure out what's going on.
No sooner did I get the words out of my mouth, a blonde doctor our age comes flying out of an office down the hall.
Andy's old office.
Damnit.
Damnit. Please. Please don't be Camila
"I'm looking for a Detective Mendes?" He says anxiously looking at Brian and I who happen to be the only other people in the hall. He's in a full panic and you can see little beads of sweat dripping down his face.
"Yes, I'm Detective Mendes" I say. The somersaults start getting worse.
"Come...come quickly! Camila is asking for you!" He stutters stepping closer to us.
Without even thinking, I'm immediately right in his face. The collar of his white lab coat clutched in my hands. I grip any harder and my knuckles will match his coat.
"What did you do to her?" I growl, gritting my teeth.
The new doctor gulps audibly.
"Nn....non...nothing sir. I swear! I....I just asked her to come talk to me in my office....sss....she went to walk out and I touched her arm and she...she collapsed on the floor" he almost whimpers.
My heart stops. Panic sets in and my blood boils. In a move so fast, I throw new boy to the ground and sprint down the hall, Brian hot on my heels.
Shit Mila, stay with me honey! I'm coming! I'm trying to brace myself for what I might find. I'm not prepared for this again.
Not again.
Arriving in Andy's old office, my eyes are met with my beautiful best friend curled up like a baby, her head on Tiffany's lap, sobbing uncontrollably. Her breathing is labored and when her eyes meet mine, I see nothing. She's gone blank.
Gently kneeling beside her, I hand Brian my radio and my gun before I sit down next to Camila. Tiffany realizes what I'm doing, helps her crawl into my arms. Like a koala, she wraps her body around me so tightly, I can feel every inch of her trembling. She's still sobbing; all I can do is sit there and hold her. I'm gently caressing the back of her hair, whispering in her ear that everything will be okay, that I'm here and she will be okay. We are rocking back and forth, trying to calm her down. My other arm snaked protectively around her waist.
In a desperate sigh of relief, her body gives out and she goes limp in my arms. She's only sniffling at this point, but she's still somehow managed to have a death grip on me. I feel her cold lips on my neck, her face cradled there breathing in my scent.
After what feels like hours, she pulls away slightly to look me in the eyes. The life has returned in them and I smile internally; she's still in there.
Brian who must have stepped out, returns to the room with a cold water bottle in hand.
"What happened Camila?" I ask, gently wiping the remaining tears trickling down her face with my thumbs.
"I....I.....I don't want to talk about it now" she whispers.
I nod in understanding and help her up. Brian hands her the water bottle and she's clutching me like she needs me to walk. Not thinking anything of it, I scoop her up in my arms and carry her out of that god awful room. Her head laying gently against my chest as I bridal style carry her out into the hall.
Still out of view of everyone I kindly ask her what she wants to do now.
She quietly answers me that she wants me to take her home. I nod and Brian calls our Commander to let her know what's going on. After approving us to have the rest of the day off, and tomorrow, Brian escorts us to the locker room where Camila says she's okay to get down and grab her stuff. When she reappears I really see how exhausted she looks, her eyes bloodshot and face swollen from crying.
Holding Camila firmly as we walk out the front door, Tiffany stops us and gives Mila a kiss on the cheek. Dr. Story excuses Camila the rest of the week. It's amazing how understanding everyone is with her.... well all except for the new guy, but I'll deal with him later.
I end up driving her home in her car. The whole ride home her head hangs down, but I can't help but smile at her small hand in mine as we drive.
Arriving home, I park her car and help her out. She says she feels really weak and I pick her up again to carry her inside. Sinu and Sofi are home, but I silently signal to them that now is not the time, and that I have Mila taken care of.
Waking upstairs, I head for her room.
"No...I want to go to your room." She says grabbing my tighter.
"Ok Banana, whatever you want." I say kissing the top of her head.
Once in my room, I go to lay her on my bed and she's pulls me down with her. She snuggles up to me like a koala again.
"Please don't leave me" she whispers, keeping a strong grip on my arm.
"I won't honey. I'm right here." I say soothingly.
We manage to lay down cuddled up together, her face in the crook of my neck. I can feel her breathing has slowed to normal, before pulling her closer to me.
After a few minutes of just holding her, I feel her body go heavy and I know she's asleep.
"I love you Mila" I whisper and kiss her temple.
"I love you too Shawn, thank you for saving me." She whispers back...I can't help my grin as I let sleep overtake me as well.
