Saving Her

Chapter 56

Shawn's POV

Once I get to work, I give Patti, the receptionist a hug and tell her I missed her because I know she's been worried about me and Mila, so I let her know we are doing okay. Once I've said hello to a few more people, I walk into the locker room and find Brian and Connor getting ready to go. They see the bag of food in my hand and look at me curiously.

Handing them each a container of food, Connor pipes up "Not that I'm complaining man, but where did you get all this food?"

"Mila over ordered this morning and decided to give you guys the leftovers. She surprised me for our 6 month anniversary." I reply.

"That's today?!" Brian asks.

"Yeah...it is. It almost doesn't feel real. I know this is a huge step and milestone for us and I feel guilty for almost not remembering." I admit.

"You guys have been through way more than the average couple man." Connor says.

"Yeah we have been. I want to do something special for her tonight, but I don't want to go too over the top because then I really gotta go all in for our 1 year." I chuckle slightly.

"You'll think of something, you always do!" Brian says as he pats me on the back.

I nod in response as they guys grab their duffel bags and guns and head out. I leave my stuff in my locker and find my way to the call center. Since I'm not going out in the field, the Commander and I agreed that I could sit and help the officers with the 911 answering service.

It's a slow day so far and I'm wracking my brain trying to think of the perfect plans for dinner. I know that Sinu and Sofi will be out for dinner tonight so I think about just staying home and doing something simple, yet romantic.

I know Camila loves pizza just as much as I do and we haven't had it in awhile so I decide that and maybe a movie night at home would be perfect. We deserve some time to ourselves to just relax and enjoy each other's company.

I can't wait for shift to end so I can go home and get things ready.

I call Tiffany with about an hour left on shift and she agrees to take Camila shopping while I get the house ready.

Shift ends and I text the boys that I'm heading home and will let them know how tonight goes.

Getting back to the Cabello's, I strip my uniform off and hop in the shower. Once I'm clean and dressed in a simple pair of dark wash jeans and a Beatles T-shirt, I head downstairs and start to set things up in the living room.

Once everything but the pizza is set, I grab my keys and head to the store. I buy a bouquet of sunflowers and make one final stop to pick up my gift for Camila.

Heading home, I order pizza on the way and pick it up just in time to get home and put the finishing touches on everything.

Pretty soon I hear Camila pull into the driveway and come in through the garage. As she enters the living room I can't help but notice how beautiful she looks in a simple black and white long flowery dress with a thigh high slit. She's wearing a oversized black cardigan that I recognize as mine and it makes me smile because I love seeing her in my clothes.

Her hands fly to cover her mouth as she lets out a loud gasp taking in the sight in front of her.

"Oh my god Shawn! This is amazing!" She says excitedly as she walks over to me. I've decorated around the TV and have the pizza and our favorite wine on the floor in front of the table in the living room. Behind where we will sit, the table is covered with other various food items.
