The longer I stand on this rooftop, the more the cold is starting to seep into my skin, painfully reminding me of how I ruined what should have been the most perfect night.
I fight the impending tears, begging them to keep from falling. I force a smile on to my face as Grayson holds his hand to me, his confident aura never failing to amaze me.
I literally just denied him a kiss, and he still emits his charismatic charm like it's no big deal.
I envy him.
Is it not a big deal to him? Does he kiss girls on this rooftop all the time? Is this where he takes all of his conquests? Secretly, I really hope not. I hope to God that I'm wrong about this.
"You hungry darlin'?" Grayson's asks, a perfect, one-sided smile stretching from his lips as the wind gently assaults his dark, silky hair.
Quickly I'm pulled back to reality, released from my unhealthy thoughts. I nod; I am hungry. But I'm hungry for more than food. I'm hungry for Grayson, and right now I just want to rewind time and kiss the hell out of this man.
Seriously, what the hell was I thinking? Why did I have to panic like that? I roll my eyes.
We start back down the stairs, hand in hand and stuck in a bubble of silence. My whole body feels deflated, longing to take Grayson into my arms to right my wrongs. But it just isn't the right time. Not right now.
With one arm now wrapped around my shoulder, Grayson tells me that he knows just the place to grab a bite to eat—of course he does; he knows everything about this huge, manic city—and within what only feels like minutes, I feel my low mood evaporating at the sight of a small, rustic Italian restaurant at the corner of a quiet street.
I didn't question Grayson the whole walk here. I know now that I can trust his decisions tonight; I know now that he knows this city and it's secret walkways better than most people. And I know that he'll have picked out somewhere special for us to eat.
Expectedly, the building is adorable; small, green vines dance up the side of the cream coloured exterior and a large, wooden sign that hangs from the wall swings gently against the wind, the name 'Luigi's' etched into it.
Grayson holds open the small, wooden door for me, and I'm welcomed in by sensational smells of cooked pizza and garlic.
The restaurant is empty save for an elderly couple eating in the far corner, and soothing sounds of violins plays gently from the speakers.
I smile, taking in the cosy atmosphere as Grayson's hand meets my hip. For a small moment, I'm able to forget about the whole rooftop situation.
