After what feels like five hours telling a hungover Hailey every last detail about last night, I decide to make myself a cup of tea and spend the afternoon studying for my upcoming assessments at the University.

I feel as though my life has been somewhat of a whirlwind the last few weeks, and so I decide that I should try to do something 'normal' today.

Spreading my papers along the bed, I sprawl myself across, head in hands as I read through my lecture notes. Though as hard as I try to take in the words, my mind is still present in the ballroom last night.

As I read and re-read paragraphs on strategic planning and communication strategies, it only takes me ten minutes or so to realise I'm not actually taking much in.

Feeling unmotivated, I switch on my TV and watch some headlines of recent news, before I'm startled by my phone vibrating against the side table.

"Hello?" I say, not even looking at the screen to see who called.

"Mia, hey honey." The soft, reassuring voice of my Dad on the other end lifts a smile onto my face.

     "Hey, dad. How are you?"

"I'm good thanks hun, and you? How have you been getting on? Did you enjoy the dance?" As always my Dad's twenty-one questions never fail to make me laugh.

"The dance was amazing, I had the best time," I say, feeling my cheeks flush at the flashback to when Grayson uttered those three words to me on the dancefloor. Though I won't tell my Dad about that just yet.

"Glad to hear it honey. And work?"

"Work's good," I say, fiddling a loose sheet of paper between my fingertips. "It's going really well, actually."

"I'm so glad," my Dad says, and I can sense his relief at the other end of the phone. "I wondered if you wanted to come home for a couple of days for your birthday next week on Saturday? Maybe you could come on the Friday? Lucas and I thought it would be a good idea to have a family dinner. Hailey can come of course. And your new boyfriend?"

Oh, crap.

I had completely forgotten it was my birthday next week. Hell, I'd even let slip the fact that it was already November.

Time really does fly when you're having fun.

"Sure!" I say, a rush of excitement jolting through me at the thought of visiting home. I'm not sure if Grayson will want to come, though I'll certainly ask the question. "I'll sort out the train times and let you know."

"Sounds great, speak soon Mia. Love you."

     "Love you too Dad."

Once my dad hangs up, I quickly pace across the landing into Hailey's far too messy room, and lie next to her on her bed as she sleeps off her raging hangover; either that or the endless amount of questions she asked me this morning had finally worn her out.
