My Monday morning has already been taken up with two work meetings, countless cups of tea and an hour of responding to emails. I like being busy, but my organised self always feels slightly unsettled as I catch up on correspondence that's come in over the weekend.

     "Psst, Mia!"

I turn from my desk, surprised to see Rachel beaming at me from behind her computer.

At the coffee machine, Danny is making drinks with Sophie, discussing the week that he spent in Scotland. I must spend some time catching up with him.

     "Rachel, hey!" I say.

Her gleaming red hair is tied smartly into a bun, her full lips coated with brilliant red lipstick.

"We're going for a meal on Friday," she whispers. "To celebrate Michael's birthday. "You wanna come? It's at Smith's Steakhouse in Leicester Square, seven-thirty PM."

"Michael?" I question. I didn't realise we were all that close to Michael to throw him a birthday meal, but I'm happy to go nevertheless. "Sure!"

"Great!" Rachel chirps. "Oh, but don't mention it to him, it's a surprise! Jenny is going to lure him there after work. She's going to tell him they're just going out for a quick drink."

I nod. "No problem."

Turning back to my work, I'm disrupted by the light buzz of my phone against my desk. The sound alone makes me tremble, and I smile at the sight of Grayson's name across the screen, alongside a message that reads:

Miss you. When will I see you again? P.S - I have a surprise for you.

Biting my lip, I place my phone to my mouth, my insides dancing. I wish I could handle his imaginary presence, but I just can't.

"Someone's happy," Danny teases from across the way.

My cheeks flush. "Sorry, it's just Grayson."

"Grayson?"

Oh crap. I only just remember that I've told no one at work of my relationship with Grayson.

"Oh," I stammer. "Yeah, I'm sort of dating someone."

Danny's eyebrows raise. "Happy for you Mia!"

"What about you?" I ask, keen to change the subject. "Are you with anyone?"

"Yeah. I have a boyfriend called Ewan," Danny says, sipping his coffee. "That's who I went to Scotland with. We've been together for three years now."

My mouth flies open, my heart happy for Danny. "That's amazing! I had no idea! But I'm so happy for you." Danny is so nice, and he deserves someone nice at his side. I'm glad he's in a steady relationship.
