I stand motionless, and I watch them both.

I watch my ex-boyfriend, his shock pummelling his body. And I watch Grayson. Grayson Cooper. Who is the very last person I'd ever have expected to be here tonight.

I pinch my leg a few times, because I'm not sure if I'm dreaming. I mean, what the hell is happening right now?

Tommy lifts himself slowly, and Grayson stands bolt upright next to him, every single one of his muscles pumped and ready—ready for Tommy's outburst which is sure to explode any second now.

"Look who the fuck it is," Tommy snarls, brushing some debris from his sleeve. "Fucking Superman."

My heart seems to be in my head. I wish I could move my body, but I just can't. I just have to watch them both and pray for the best.

"Leave," Grayson orders, his voice surprisingly calm. "Get out of here and stay away from Mia."

Tommy laughs, and it carries through the quiet air. He rubs his hands against his chin and says, "You know what? You're welcome to her." His evil eyes fly to me. "She was frigid as shit anyway."

I want to be sick. I want to run into that sea and let the waves take me away. But I still can't move. I still can't speak.

Maybe the shock will take me before anyone or anything else can.

Grayson smiles, Tommy's words having no effect on him. "Must have been more about you then mate."

Tommy's hands morph into boulders, and briefly I shudder. But then he backs away. "Fuck off'" he grumbles, throwing one last look of disgust before he leaves the beach.

He knows he can't win against Grayson.

Everyone should know that they can't win against Grayson.

I can't even win against Grayson. Because when I collapse to the floor in a blubbering mess, I welcome his arms around me more so than I ever have before.

"Mia. Hey," he purrs, his large hand flying to my cheek, pulling me against his warm chest. "It's okay baby."

Despite everything, despite all the things that have happened between us over the past week, right now I welcome his comforting, strong body around me more than anything. I welcome his soothing words.

He hugs me tighter, so much tighter. Waves lap in the background and the moonlight cradles our bodies. Everything is so weird—so out of shape right now. My head has been a cloud of confusion yet all I want right now is for Grayson to hold me. And he does.

"I've got you now baby," he says against my scalp, his lips pressing there gently. "You're safe Mia."

I sob.
