Waving Hailey off, I watch with a smile as she strides into her house and greets her parents with the biggest hugs she can manage. They offered me in, but I declined. Right now, I'm just craving some time to myself.

Taking a breath, I slowly amble back along the shoreline, welcoming the cool breeze and the tranquil sound of the gentle waves lapping calmly next to me. As much as it's been great to see my family again, I feel like I need a minute to myself to just think. Life can get pretty hectic before you can even stop to realise.

Steeping up onto the pier, I walk myself towards the end, taking a moment to embrace the aesthetic views of the gentle ocean and the large moon that sits just above it.

Every time I really appreciate this place, I remember how lucky I am that I got to grow up here.

Sitting down, I let my legs hang off the edge, inhaling deeply as I stare out to the slow dancing waters. I'd been trying to suppress it, but I can't help but think of Grayson now that I'm alone with my thoughts.

I'm slowly coming round to the idea of hearing him out, but I'm not sure we can ever build what we had back up. My happy memories of him are tarnished by what I saw that night in Jack's Cellar. Right now, I can't think how any explanation will be able to erase that from my mind.

I sigh. I wish none of it had happened. I wish that he was just at work that night, as he told me he was going to be. If that had been the case, we could be sat next to each other right now, hand in hand as we admire the romantic view in front of us.

But as it is, he isn't.

Sucking in a long breath, I think how crazy it is that so much can change in the space of a week. I stare down to the water below me, watching as the ripples sparkle against the moon.

I contemplate taking my phone out to call Grayson. Ideally, I want to speak to him face to face about it all, but I'm not sure when I'll next have that opportunity. And with each minute that passes, I grow more curious about everything.

Hesitantly, I take my phone from my pocket and open my contacts, my thumb landing on Grayson's name. I take a few moments. Inhaling and exhaling. Then inhaling again. And then I go to press dial.

"Oh hey Mia!" A husky voice calls.

I quickly shut off my phone and shove it back into my pocket. Because I know this voice all too well. And it makes me feel nauseous.

Tommy.

I turn my head, my eyes falling at the sight of my ex-boyfriend striding towards me, the wooden beams of the pier creaking under his heavy footsteps.

When he reaches me, he sits with his large legs over the edge, a wicked smile plastered across his toned face. His close shaved brown hair is barely visible through the darkness, and I can't help but notice how his muscular arms seem even bigger than they did the last time I saw him.
