A I S L I N G

I woke up laying in my cozy queen sized bed at my family's large mansion just outside of Boston. I was curled up comfortably in a mess of velvety soft blankets.

I slowly peel them off me and shudder the instant my feet make contact with the cold, hardwood floor.

I know I'm crazy but people who sleep with socks on are insane.

I slowly creep over to the window and pull the curtains apart. I flinch at the staggering amount of light that immediately hit me like a ton of bricks. My eyes start to readjust as I peered at the view out my window.

I glance around the room and can't help but feel uncomfortable. I want to be in my own home again.

I wonder what's going to happen now?

I change into some comfy sweats and a t-shirt before heading downstairs to the kitchen.

I walk down the cold hallway, everything feeling so unfamiliar now. I turn the corner into the bright spacious kitchen and my eyes light up to find my older sister, Aine, eating a yogurt parfait whilst typing away on her laptop. "Hi Aine!" I grin from ear to ear as I walk over and envelope her in a hug.

"Aisling! I'm so glad you're alright!" She squeals, hugging me tighter. "What exactly happened to you?" She asked cautiously, probably only knowing a small portion of the details.

I sigh as the events of yesterday flashed through my mind. It was all too much for one day.

"Well I don't really know. I found out my boss at the real estate company was working for a mafia boss when he accused me of having to do with a break in at the office. My key card was used because some man had pick pocketed me the night before. My boss told me to meet him somewhere but I don't know, I just didn't feel right about it. I grabbed my gun and other things from my apartment and went to the cottage in Connecticut. When I was there I snooped through all of dad's things."

She gasps exaggeratedly. We were supposed to stay away from all of it but how could I when I was ripped from mine right back into this life.

I glared at her, knowing she was judging me all too much for that, then I continued. "Turns out my boss works for Dad. I was on my way here to get answers, I stopped for gas and the same man who took my key card and broke in to the office was there. He held a cloth, with chloroform I'm guessing, to my face and I was rendered unconscious and I woke up in an empty basement. I used my watch to pick my locks free and smashed a chair through the window to escape. Then I ran and called dad and now here I am." I breathe out. Goodness, that was a a lot.

Saying all that out loud made me sound crazy.

I can't believe this is happening.

Aine just looks at me completely stunned, it was clear she had no idea what to say so I just smile at her and turn back to the fridge to grab a water.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I think our father owes me some answers." I say before waltzing down to my father's office. I burst through the heavy wooden doors, not caring if he gets mad.

"Aisling! Thank god you're okay! You were out like a light for so long." He got up, pulled a very surprised me into a tight hug, and shot a wide smile down at me.

It's nice seeing him like this but I doubt it will last for long. He hasn't been the same since mom died. I imagine he's closer to who he was before my mom came into his life than ever before.

My mom told me so so many stories about him and their love when I was old enough to understand. I would be lying if I said it didn't scare me the first time my mom told me about my father before she came into his life.
