Chapter 2: Holding up a promise

Nagisa's POV

I left the classroom after what felt like forever, especially with those special instructions given by Korosensei. Leaving the building I find Kayano there waiting for me.

"Oh, you're back Nagisa!" Kayano exclaimed.

"Kayano... you waited for me?" I asked.

"Well yeah, there's something I needed to tell you..."

Oh boy, am I getting another bombshell dropped on me!? Well I need to be there for Kayano, so I accepted this as her friend.

"Oh, well what is it?" I asked, eager to know how I can help her.

"It's kind of complicated, can I tell you in a more private location?" Kayano said, while looking behind me.

I turn around to see Korosensei with a Pink face watching from the classroom with his hot ramen.

Right... supersonic speeds means he's back in no time... forgot that for a second there.

So Kayano and I walk down the mountain until we get to a spot where there were some smooth rocks we could sit at for a moment.

"We can stop right here for a sec" Kayano said with some red on her face. This could get serious I thought to myself, be prepared for anything.

I'm almost on edge right now, I shouldn't worry though. I mean, this is Kayano, everything will be perfectly fine.

"Nagisa, when I had my fight with Korosensei, and you kissed me to get my focus away from him, and he removed my tentacles...". I immediately flustered myself, "Is this what she wanted to talk about! This is way too embarrassing!" I thought.

"I was willing to trade my life for revenge that night, and I was going to die soon if that had lasted any longer..." Kayano continued, still looking at the ground. "So thanks for saving me, I don't know what I can do to repay you..." she finished, without a single bit of confidence in her voice.

This is my chance I thought. "Kayano there is one thing you can help me with..." I asked, praying she would accept my proposition. "Can I talk to you somewhere private, there is a serious matter we need to discuss, and it's going to get dark by the time we get home at this rate." I said knowing what would come next if she said yes.

"Sure, if it's ok with your parents you can come over to my place for the night, it's ok with me." Kayano said quickly after I finished talking.

"WHAT!? But what about your parents? Will they be ok with you bringing a boy over for a night!?" I said, louder than I should have.

Of all the ways this conversation was to go, this was where I least expected it. There is no way my mom will be ok with this either anyway.

"It's going to be fine she said, I-I've actually been living on my own for a while now..." Kayano said, again losing confidence in her speech. "My parents live quite far from here, and knew that I could handle my own in a better school than those near my area."

"Oh, I see... well let me check in with my mom first, just to make sure that it's ok with her first." I said this knowing she would say absolutely not, which in a way was relieving at the moment surprisingly.

I call my mom and put her on speaker, so Kayano can hear too.

"Hey mom!"

"Hi sweetie! How was school today?"

"It was fine, and I'll tell you more about it later, I have a quick question to ask you all."

"Well sure thing, is there something you need?"

"No, Kaede Kayano and I have a few things we need to do, and she said if it's ok with you then I can stay overnight with her. So is that doable?"

I carefully phrased my question. My mom typically didn't approve of such things, and this may have been too far out of my comfort zone anyway. At the same time I didn't want to convey that we could be doing romantic things either. I don't think that would happen, but she would forever pester me about it.

"Sure you can stay with her for the night! I'll be on a business trip for the next few days anyway, and Kayano is a very sweet girl, so I know she'll be quite the host too! Have a great time and I love you!"

"Thanks mom, I love you too..." I end the call in disbelief of what just took place. She actually said yes to something this ambitious for the first time in my life.

"Well you heard her..." Let me go get some clothes for tonight and tomorrow real fast, my apartment isn't too far from here." I say, beginning to walk home.

"I'll join you!" Kayano exclaimed.

Well I could always use the company, and we were going to the same place by the end of this, so it wasn't any time loss for either of us. I see no reason why not to.

"Ok then, let's get a move on!" I say as we begin to walk in the direction of my apartment complex.

This will be one of the most important days in my life I thought, as a joyous Kayano kept pace with me with a smile on her face that could light a room. It goes down tonight.

Maybe I'm a bit intimidated by all this, but Korosensei tasked me with something he finds very important. I know that we have to kill him by the end of the year, but I still value him greatly. This is honestly the least I could do for the many great things he's done for me.
