What The Future Holds For Us

Chapter 1: Needs of another

Nagisa's POV

It was quite the pleasant Friday afternoon on the mountain, where Class 3-E resided. School was almost over and the kids were all excited to head home. Their teacher was the powerful creature who destroyed the moon, he was dubbed as Korosensei by one of his students, to say he was 'Unkillable'. The bell rings and everyone packs their bags and heads home for the weekend.

"Remember to read up on Chapter 7, we can't have Class A pull ahead again! Enjoy the weekend because we will have our beach day assignment when we return!" Korosensei said to everyone, already halfway out the door. I was following a few of my friends before Korosensei pulled me aside.

"Ooh Nagisa, may I have a quick word with you?" Korosensei asked. I turned and walked back to hear Korosensei out.

"You need something?" I asked him. I didn't have a clue as to what he wanted from me, so this was likely something important.

Korosensei waited until everyone else was more or less out of hearing range before he started. He walked over to close the classroom door, Korosensei clearly had something serious to discuss with me.

"Thank you for joining me Nagisa, there has been something I've needed to ask you for a while now, and it will require you to promise me not to tell the others." Korosensei said with a bit of worry in his tone, which is quite unusual for him.

Korosensei has made it through all of our assassination attempts on him, often with ease. Even when his students are in mortal danger, he is completely confident that his students will prevail. Seeing him worried about something makes no sense, should I be afraid too?

"Uhm sure..." I'm not too sure what he needs, but I trust Korosensei with what he needs from me.

"Nagisa..." Korosensei began, "ever since Kaede revealed herself as Akari Yukimura I've been thinking, she has been so fixated on revenge for an incredibly long period of time. This cannot have been healthy, especially while holding back immense pain of those tentacles."

A few weeks ago, Kayano ambushed Korosensei hoping to kill him. She did so with tentacles, similar to those of Korosensei himself. She also said she was the sister of our former teacher, and said Korosensei was the one who killed her.

In a fierce battle between the two, Kayano's bloodlust was nothing any of us had ever seen. The only way to save her was for Korosensei to remove her tentacles. He had no way of doing so with her moving so fast, and it was looking grim for the both of them.

And the only opening he had was when I kissed her...

"Is there something you would like me to do about Kayano Korosensei?" I asked, not knowing what he had prepared for me.

"Nagisa, Kaede has been under a tremendous amount of stress for quite some time now, physically and mentally. I need you to go and have a serious talk with her, she trusts you the most out of anyone, and should things turn out poorly, you need to be there for her."

"Korosensei this seems like a topic that you should be talking about with her yourself, I'm not sure if I'm the right person for this."

"Nagisa, believe me I wish I could. However, someone has to be prepared to help Kaede later on in life, I can't be that person. My time remaining in this world is shortening every second, but yours isn't."

"Korosensei I—"

"Nagisa, I don't want anyone other than you on the job. You have a close relationship with Kaede, correct?"

Korosensei was really serious about me specifically being the one to follow through on this.

"W-well yeah, she's my best friend..."

"Then you too want to see Kaede at her best. In order to do so you must be there for her, whether it's days or years, she may need her best friend."

Korosensei was putting a lot of faith in me I thought, he cares a lot about his students and knows what is best for them. If he says that I'm the man for the job then I guess he's right.

"I'll do it" I said in confidence, "Kayano is my best friend, and she means a lot to me too, I will do what I must to help her out in this rough time for her."

"Thank you Nagisa, this is a big favor to ask, and your confidence sparks joy in me. I won't be here for much longer, but you will. I know that you are the right man for the job".

Korosensei teleported to the window, "Now if you will excuse me, I've got an order of ramen waiting for me about 200 kilometers from here, have a good weekend!"

And with that he was gone, at Mach 20 speeds, he orders takeout from everywhere on earth, just to make a 30 minute round trip.

This was a new feeling. I've had to take on responsibility plenty of times in my life, but nothing like this. Korosensei really believes in my ability to do this though, and he always knows what's best, I'll probably be able to do this just fine.

I should mentally plan and prepare myself for how this could go. I can't come off as simply being on a mission from Korosensei, it'll come off as I'm not actually caring about her well being. I need to present myself as genuinely interested and concerned about Kayano. She clearly doesn't dislike me for kissing her, so I shouldn't be worried either.

Well, time to go have an interesting conversation with Kayano...
