Nagisa's POV
"Good morning class, let's take our seats and begin home room." I address my class.
"Yes sir!" They all reply in unison.
My students are absolutely fantastic, beginning my teaching career I wasn't too great. I was tasked with handling the group of outcasts in the school, like I was at Kunugigaoka. It worked out, as they all ended the year successes in their eyes, getting their best exam scores yet.
Of course, I have Korosensei to thank for that. I wasn't supersonic, or had every page of the texts memorized, but all aspects of my teaching styles were made after Korosensei's.
I still teach the lowest level class, even though administrators say I can go to A class anytime I wish. Not a chance though, that's not what Korosensei would do. This year though I got some serious talent for the class. Several students have the ability for top scores, one of them reminds me of Karma intellectually. I can't wait for finals this year
"Let's take roll now..."
Taking the roll is both the best and hardest part of my job sometimes. Knowing that all of my students made it to class that day just warms my heart, but those days bring back the slightest memory of Korosensei's final roll call.
That was the saddest day of my life, but it was the beginning of a new chapter in life. Besides, it was either Korosensei, or the earth itself, so we still made the right call that day.
Monday's aren't everyone's favorite but they're mine, because seeing my students is my favorite. I'm sure Korosensei would have felt the same way, which is just another aspect to him that I model myself after.
Though this week would be different. Because I have something to look forward to at the end of it. I have a date with Akari Yukimura.
We agreed to do dinner, to catch up and just enjoy each other's company. This Saturday was one to look forward to. I wanted to make extra progress on my work as a teacher, so that my time could be best utilized with Akari.
But this was in 5 days, today was a school day, and I need to be prepared for that.
"Let's begin with our English homework, please pass it to the front of you." I instruct the class.
They were usually quite good at doing their homework. I make sure they understand its importance in school early on in the year, so that they can resist falling behind in class.
"Everyone turned in their homework again! That increases our completion streak to 19! Only 2 more and we break our record for the school year!" I say, appreciating the efforts of my students.
I find it useful to have minor goals for the students to strive to maintain, 100% completion on nightly homework is one of them.
"Now, let's pull out our copies of Catcher In The Rye, and please turn to chapter 8."
"Kano, will you please begin reading?" I ask.
"Of course sir..." Kano responds.
Kano is an excellent student, she is one of my favorites. Her friends have given her a hard time about this on occasion, calling her a 'teachers pet', which I just chuckle at. But it's probably just because she talks to me the most out of the students.
The rest of the day goes as normal, nothing too out of the ordinary. The students were quite pleasant and productive throughout all their classes, always good to see. I drive home and take a quick nap, before preparing tomorrow's lessons.
Suddenly I get an email from one of my students. His name was Shota, he was excellent in math but struggled in English, an unfortunate sight to any teacher, but if Korosensei was to help his students on individual weaknesses, then so shall I.
Good evening Nagisa-Sensei, is it ok for me to have a quick word with you tomorrow after class, it shouldn't be too long, but I find it important to me. I'll explain everything, and why I'm coming to you tomorrow. Thank you very much, Shota.
This was quite unusual for Shota, asking about something that seemed quite personal. When he does contact me outside of school, it's always about whatever english assignment there was that night.
But my student needed me, so I had to help. Korosensei was more than prepared for these situations, I should be too.
I made myself some ramen, went to bed a bit early, and looked forward to another day of school.
But getting sleep was going to be a bit troublesome. My mind was still incredibly active, so rest wasn't an option. I was too busy thinking of Akari.
I have no idea how I was so calm asking her out. Part of me was thinking of it as simply seeing an old friend. I thought it was going to be me returning to the promise I made Korosensei. I thought of the possibility that a romantic night would take place.
I live alone, but I still covered up my face in embarrassment.
After probably another hour of staring at my ceiling with a red face, I finally managed to fall asleep.
I was fairly tired coming into school today. I don't think students would notice but I still kept that in the back of my head.
Class was a bit of a slow day, but that's how today's classes go. But today is the day that Shota wanted to speak with me, so I mentally prepared for whatever my student had in store.
The final bell rings and my students said goodbye on their way out the door. All of them but Shota that is.
Once the classroom had cleared up, Shota walked to my desk, looking at the floor. He seemed more ashamed than anything else at the moment.
"Ummm... Nagisa-Sensei..." Shota started, "S-so you know how the school dance festival is coming soon..." he muttered.
"Yes I am aware of this." I say, intrigued as to where he was going with this.
Our school does a festival similar to a prom. The graduating class gets to have their own special party nearing the end of the year. I've seen many of these go by, and I wish I had personally had something like this when I was their age.
"Well... I want to ask Kano to be my date for it, but I'm not sure how..." Shota says with a red face. "Neither of my parents did something like this, so I'm asking you on the off chance that you could help with this..."
Well shoot, I have just as much experience in this field as his parents do. I have to do something though, Korosensei went into teaching with little experience and did astoundingly. But, I did have experience of asking uncomfortable things to girls, how things went with Akari in Junior High.
I have to offer Shota whatever I have, anything is better than nothing.
"Well Shota, it might not be the answer that you wanted to hear, but in my experience, simply asking her has worked out in the past for me. You should ask for the opinions of others, not because I'm giving poor advice, but the more help you get the better." I tell him, hoping I'm saying all the right things.
"Ok, thanks Nagisa-Sensei!" Shota delightfully says.
Phew, I thought he might have taken it as unhelpful, but he wasn't faking that smile.
The festival is this weekend, and if things go right for Shota, we will both be having a date with our favorite girl on that night.
I packed up my bags with a slight smile on my face, and went home for the night.
