Chapter 9: What I wanted to hear

Nagisa's POV

Tonight was quite the emotional roller coaster. I felt incredible amounts of happiness. I felt good, telling Kayano all the good things about her. I felt satisfied that I was having such a great time. I felt excited, because the night wasn't ever over.

"Wow this looks great!" I say, looking at what Kayano had ordered for dinner.

She had ordered 2 orders of Sapporo Miso Ramen, with freshly made ingredients, from a seemingly high end restaurant. Everything looked and smelled terrific.

"This looks a bit expensive, Kayano, should I pay you back for my portion?" I ask, unsure of whether or not I should even have some.

"It's perfectly fine Nagisa, the place I got it from has it surprisingly cheap. But it tastes just as good as a Michelin Star restaurant!" Kayano boasted.

"Well if you're that confident then ok!" I said with eagerness to try what she's gotten.

Sure enough she couldn't have described it more perfectly. I already knew that she could cook fairly well, but man, this can't be beat. Our chatting during dinner wasn't as wholehearted or heavy as our stories got, but we still enjoyed it very much.

Desert was great, Kayano had made a cake yesterday, and we had some of that to wrap up our meal.

"Wow, that was fantastic Kayano!" I say, slouching back in my seat. "I didn't know that you could bake so well, or that such an astounding ramen place was so close by.

"Of course! Also, if you and your mom would ever like something made, just ask and I'll do it!" Kayano said, happy in her choice of dinner tonight.

We still have another hour or two before we should get to bed, so maybe Kayano has a last plan or something. Whatever it is, if it's anything like how the rest of the day has gone, I can look forward to it without fear.

"So Kayano, anything else you have for the night?" I ask.

"Actually I was just seeing if you wanted to watch a movie or something?" Kayano said.

"Well sure that sounds fun! I'll watch whatever you want to." I say, pleased with her choice of activity.

"Awesome! Let's go back to the living room, there is this new romcom I wanted to watch, if you're into that." Kayano quickly replied.

"Good, let's go do that." I said, walking over to the couch.

Kayano's POV

This ought to be fun, wrap up the night on a high note.

I sat in the chair near Nagisa's position on the couch. I powered up the movie and we began to watch. It wasn't too long, and should carry over until bedtime, the two of us just sat back to enjoy our experience.

Time skip

The movie was probably 70% over, and I looked over at Nagisa to see that he'd already fallen asleep. I wanted to wake him up, since he hasn't changed into his clothes for bed.

But... not yet...

He looked so pretty while asleep, and I just liked looking at him. He was so peaceful, it would be a crime to wake him up. I'm not going to let this go to waste.

I get up from my seat and move right next to Nagisa. J-just for a bit of course. I leaned on him, almost as if I was trying to wrap myself around him. Nothing felt this good, I could do this forever I thought.

I love Nagisa so much, we could do this a thousand times and I would love it as much as I do now. His body was so warm and comfortable.

I had to make sure not to fall asleep right now, if Nagisa were to wake up, I would have to have the most uncomfortable conversation in history. I'll just stay here for a few more minutes. I wished I could relax in this position, but my heart wouldn't let me.

I stayed in my position with him for a few moments, then turned my head to face Nagisa. He was still asleep, even though I'm squirming in place. I stopped myself to stare at Nagisa, then without thinking I moved in and gave him a kiss on his cheek. I jumped back on the off chance I woke him up, luckily I didn't.

"Hehehe..." I whispered.

I shifted back towards him again, kissing him more times, this time on his lips. I think Miss Bitch would be proud of me. I moved back once again, he didn't wake up this time either. I didn't want to risk anything more, so I just laid back in my spot, not watching the movie. All I could do is stare at Nagisa.

Time Skip

The movie had finally ended, and I had woken Nagisa up, of course after moving back to my original position. But I'm not going to forget what I had done earlier.

"Welp... guess we should get to bed, we do have school tomorrow too..." Nagisa said while still half asleep.

"Yeah, I agree." I say, heading towards the kitchen. "There's some packing up I need to do in here, so you head on to bed, I set up an air mattress in a spare room for you."

"Thank you Kayano, and thanks for being so helpful tonight. I'll be honest, what we're doing is kind of fun." Nagisa said, on his way to his room.

"Oh really? Maybe we should keep doing this then..." I say, clearly joking.

"Heh heh, then it wouldn't be special, right? But Kayano I most definitely think that we could do this in the future, if my mom is ok with it all."

I smiled but blushed a bit, Nagisa and I are talking about living together so easily. Any other time we would be far too embarrassed to look at another human ever again. Maybe we're just tired.

I smiled and wished him goodnight. I needed to finish up in the kitchen, then I too had to go to bed.

But while cleaning, all I could think about was the things Nagisa had said tonight. What he had told me before bed when I was at his place. All the nice things he's done for me in such a short span of time. Tonight was my chance to give something back, and I hope I did just that.

But then, Nagisa's words began to echo in my head.

"Goodnight Kayano, thank you for your bravery tonight. You mean a lot to me and I admire lots about you. Sleep well."

Those were the words he whispered in my head when he thought I was asleep. That moment meant so much to me. Because it showed Nagisa's side that I fell in love with.

"I-I think I'll return the favor." I quietly said to myself. E-even if he's... awake...

Nagisa's POV

Kayano really made this night special. She did everything right. Her hosting abilities were unparalleled. Story time was the most pleasant surprise tonight, and her face after I told her about her shirt situation was absolutely to die for.

Kayano is the person I hold closest to my heart. If anything were to jeopardize that I don't know what I'd do. I couldn't help but smile, thinking about her does that.

Then, I heard the door to my room creak open. It was Kayano, I didn't want her to worry about waking me up, so I'll just pretend to be asleep. But if she realizes it, I'll just say I've been awake this whole time.

She squatted down next to me, she could have even noticed that my face was a bit red from her presence alone. She began to whisper something to me.

"Nagisa, you are something in my life that nothing can take away. You have been so kind to me, and I can only respond in a similar way. Good night Nagisa, thanks for everything you've done for me." Kayano says.

She stopped talking, but she hesitates to stand up. Kayano gives me the slightest kiss on the cheek, then leaves to go to bed herself.

...

For a solid minute, my heart was beating incredibly fast, but my body couldn't move. I was stunned by what happened. Did Kayano have special feelings towards me?

This makes sense I guess, by her word choice when she was over on Friday. She probably left this out when I had the talk that Korosensei asked me to have. But this isn't something I can't tell Korosensei, this is too personal.

My face is getting more and more red the more I think about this. Why is this happening? D-do I feel the same way about her?

Oh boy, I'm not getting any sleep tonight, aren't I.
