Chapter 20 | How to Find a Heartbeat

Jiro's Pov.

  As soon as her and the girls ran away, she plugged her earphone jack into the ground to listen to them.

  "What happened to you then?" she heard Mineta asked Kaminari.

  "I... think I fell for Jiro..." Kaminari admitted.

  She blushed, but then it faded.

  'Wait what!? Is he being serious, or just making up an excuse?'

  "There's no way! You're lying!" Mineta didn't take it well...

  "I'm not lying," Kaminari sounded sure of himself and honest.

  'I'll listen to his heartbeat... he can't trick his heart without it beating like crazy...'

  Jiro closed her eyes to be better focused. It was easy to find her own heartbeat because she did it before... but to find someone else's was weird...

  She could hear his breathing. It sounded normal... But she was looking for his pulse... it would lead to his heart.

  Jiro could also hear that he was hungry because his stomach was grumbling... but that wasn't helpful at all for the situation at hand...

  'I didn't realize how hard this would be...'

  "I bet you are lying!" Mineta shouted.

  The sound of his voice filled her ears and it hurt a lot... Ouch... She was looking for such a sensitive soft sound that she forgot that when they were talking was going to be really loud...

  "I... have a crush on Kyoka..." Kaminari's voice was really loud! But that was because she was looking for such a quiet sound... It still made blood rush to her face...

  'Let's just get this over with... It's probably just an excuse...'

  Jiro made sure the next time that they were talking that she was looking for more general sounds so that it didn't destroy her ears. She hoped that they didn't hurt for too long...

  "Kyoka... I know you're listening to this conversation..." Kaminari sighed, "I promise that all will be revealed in due time..."

  Surprise jolted through her! 

  'How did he know!?'

  "Jiro's listening to us!?" Mineta yelled. It still kinda hurt her ears.

  "Yes, shh," Kaminari shushed him, "You're probably hurting her ears with how loud you're being."

  'Thanks Kaminari...'

  "So then is it true that you have a crush her?" Mineta asked.

  "Yes," he answered. He sounded so calm, but knew it wasn't the case because she finally found his heartbeat... It was really fast... but she wasn't sure if it was because he was lying or because it was true and he was nervous... 

  She listened harder. There had to be some difference, right?

  'But every person's heart is probably a little different... I'm probably never going to find out...'

  Well, in any case, she stopped listening because she didn't want to anymore... there was so much to take in!

  She crossed her arms. Trying to guess someone's emotions that were on the inside was kinda hard... Half the time she wasn't even sure what she was feeling...

  After taking her earphone jack out of the ground, she wiped it off with her cloth.

Kaminari's Pov.

  "Kyoka... I know you're listening to this conversation..." Kaminari sighed, "I promise that all will be revealed in due time..."

  His heart was pounding... she probably heard it all...

  'I'm pretty sure that she's listening... At least, that was what she's do. And at least if she isn't, if Mineta tried to question the girls they'd just run away, so it's fine either way...'

  "Jiro's listening to us!?" Mineta shouted.

  'Your hearing's probably really sensitive... so if you're is listening to this, it probably hurt...'

  "Yes, shh," Kaminari shushed him, "You're probably hurting her ears with how loud you're being."

  "So then is it true that you have a crush her?" Mineta asked.

  "Yes," he answered. His heart was beating really fast now...

  'I hope she can't listen to heartbeats... wait a minute... can she? She can easily amplify her own heartbeat... she can probably hear how fast it is...'

  "Well... I'm gonna go find her now," Kaminari started walking away.

  "This is only a crush you know, it'll fade away," Mineta argued.

  "And your perverted-ness will never fade away," Kaminari shot back, he stopped walking, but didn't turn around, "So which one is worse?"

  Mineta left him in silence, so he just walked away.

  "Kyoka!" he called.

  "I'm over here!" she called back.

  Kaminari walked over to her, blushing.

  "So I take it you heard our conversation..." he didn't look at her and rubbed the back of his head.

  "Yeah," Kyoka nodded, "You made up a great excuse, thanks for getting us out of there!"

  "Excuse?" Kaminari was a little confused, "Actually-"

  "I don't want to be mad at you," she stopped him, "So let's just leave it at "Thanks, you saved us" and talk about something else."

  "Er...Okay," he nodded his head.

  'I feel like I should've told her... but maybe it's best that she finds out later...'

  "Is he bothering you?" Sero glared at him.

  "Could you please just leave Kyoka and I alone? You're not obligated to check on her every second," Kaminari protested his arrival, "I was just keeping her company."

  "I just don't want her to be bothered by you," Sero argued.

  "He just saved me and the other girls from Mineta," Kyoka informed Sero.

  "What happened?" he asked for details.

  "I was singing a duet with Kyoka," Kaminari smirked at Sero, but made sure that Kyoka didn't see it," The other girls were watching and the a minute or two after we ended the song Mineta ran over and started shaking me, so I gave an opening for them to leave. That's all."

  "I meant from Jiro's perspective," Sero told them, turning to her, "Is that how it happened for you?"

  "Pretty much exactly," she nodded her head, "And now I can find other people's heartbeats."

  "Really?" Kaminari was impressed, "How do you know?"

  "Because while I was eavesdropping on you and Mineta talking, I was trying to listen to your heartbeat," Jiro admitted, looking another way. She twirled her earphone jack around her finger for some reason.

  "Well, we should probably go back to our jobs," Sero interrupted.

  They all nodded and went to their job.
