A FEW MONTHS LATER
Janelle POV
I sit with Lala in club 100, his arm around my shoulders as some dude mumble raps, I lean against him as the smoke makes my migraine worse. I look around and sigh, I hate this place, I've been here since 7 o'clock, it's 3:40am right now and I'm exhausted.
Me:Can I leave now?
Lala:Why? The party is just getting started!
Me:My head hurts Lala.
Lala:You'll be okay, take a hit, you'll feel all right.
He holds the blunt to my lips and I move my head out of the way.
Me:That's what's making my head hurt.
Lala:You killing the vibe man. Chill out.
I should have listened to Khalil.
Flashback four months ago
I sit with Khalil in the library as he reads some book for his class. While I tell him my plan.
Me:What's wrong with it?
Khalil:That's stupid, why would he leave you alone if you suddenly get attracted to him?
Me:Sexual assault is about power, and getting what you can't have. If I suddenly "want" him he'll lose interest and not want me.
Khalil:Not if he's crazy, which he is.
Me:Fine so you must have some idea.
Khalil:Telling the police, your dad.
Me:Please, they have yet to arrest him about the seahorse motel and the kidnapping of those girls. What's going to be different about me?
Khalil:Your dad is best friends with the chief of police and you can actually speak up
Me:And if he gets out? I may be the next to go missing.
Khalil:We won't let that happen.
Me:Yeah, just like how we didn't let me get raped and abused.
Khalil:Come on Janelle that isn't fair.
Me:Tell me about it.
Khalil:Find another plan, but not one that plays with the man's feelings the last thing we need is that man snapping and putting you in even more danger.
Me:What more danger could I be in Khalil?
Khalil:You ending up dead in a alleyway or your house.
Me:It'll be better than being here.
Khalil:What?
He stares at me and I shake my head looking away from him and grabbing the book I randomly picked up to keep me preoccupied.
Khalil:Jan-
Me:Whatever Khalil.
He sighs and just picks the book up slouching down into the seat. I'm stressing him out too much.
Flashback ended
I lean away from him and put my head on my arms, tears in my eyes, I close my eyes and pray.
Lala:You bold for coming in here.
Khalil:What's wrong with her?
Lala:She's straight, you know she can't hang.
