Reagan's POV: Chapter 33

The car ride was comfortably quiet as we made our way over Gabby's house for Christmas dinner. I've been quiet for the past few weeks because I couldn't stop thinking about Robert. He's tried calling me a few times but I never accepted the call. Part of me never wanted to see him again but the other part craved some kind of closure. Part of me wanted to know what he wanted to say, would he apologize? Would he realize how much shit he put me through these past few years? Would he finally understand why I had to leave? So many questions kept running in my mind and it was giving me a migraine. Gabby was still having trouble sleeping because of him. She was still having night terrors and I was trying to help. It broke my heart every night when she was screaming in her sleep begging him not to hurt her anymore and the rage I felt at him for putting her though this was almost dangerous. So my conflicted emotions and the fact that I knew how she felt about him is why I'm hesitant to tell her that not only he's been calling me, but also that I wanted to go see him face to face and listen to what he has to say for himself. The whole situation was making me nervous and I didn't know what to do. I've been dying to ask her to be mine for months now, but I don't want to start a relationship with her with lies.

"They're so extra." Gabby's quiet voice pulled me back to reality and I realized we were pulling into a driveway. The house was covered in Christmas lights and it made me smile. Christmas has always been my favorite holiday and it looks like her parents were just as extra as I was with the decorations. I looked at her and smiled as she got out of the car. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath when I realized she was opening the passenger door for me. I smiled and stepped out. We stood there just looking at each other until I pulled her into a hug and she laughed.

"They already love you babe I promise." she said in my ear and I groaned feeling my anxiety kicking in. she grabbed my hand and pulled me to the door when it swung open and her dad was standing there with a big smile on his face.

"There they are!" he walked out and hugged me first tightly before pulling her to his chest. She smiled warmly at him and kissed his cheeks as we all followed him inside. When we stepped inside I was so taken back with not just the smell of the food but the lights and their huge Christmas tree.

"Welcome home!" Her mom walked out and hugged us both. I watched as her mom pulled her into the kitchen and her dad led me to the living room and offered me a drink which I gladly accepted to calm my nerves. After a few minutes I was feeling comfortable talking to him, he was a funny guy and he kind of reminded me of my own father with their dad jokes. We heard laughter coming from the kitchen and we walked in there to see Gabby and her mother laughing over a piece of fried chicken that was burned. Her dad walked over to them and kissed his wife as gabby walked over to me and kissed my cheeks. We all sat down at the table and waited as her father prayed over the food. He couldn't even say Amen before Gabby started stuffing her face with food, we all looked at her and laughed and she looked down in embarrassment. I loved being around her family because of how positive and family oriented they all were.

"So Reagan...How did you two meet?" her dad asked and I almost choked on my food. Gabby was looking at me with amusement and her dad was waiting with a smile on his face.

"Well we met a little while ago actually." I said looking at Gabby for help. She winked at me and looked at her parents.

"We met a little over a year ago, but then we lost contact with each other." her parents were nodding waiting for her to continue "and then surprise surprise turns out she was my professor at school so yeah." she said, hurrying the last part but her dad nodded and looked over at me.

"Ahh I see, is the school okay with your relationship?" Her mom asked.

"I'm not..." I started and gabby saved me again.
