"I'm playing one of my most favorite pieces from the famous romantic composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. It's Morceaux de fantaisie, Prelude in C-sharp minor. I hope your ears can bear with my awful playing." I smiled and the clapped. They giggled when I said awful. Bahala na si Batman.
It feels like I am floating. It's been months since I played the piano and this excites me. I'm playing with the keys vibrantly like I am living in a dream. I am playing my favorite piece from Sergei Rachmaninoff, a famous Russian composer and pianist. I'm playing Morceaux de fantaisie, a piano solo that he composed.
Hindi ko mapigilang mapapikit. Bahala na kung mali-mali basta andyan na at napasubo ako. Medyo hirap na ako sumabay sa pagtugtog at pag-abot ng pedals kasi hindi naman ako katangkaran at nakaheels pa ako.
It is one of the best out five kasi set of solo scores ang Morceaux de fantaisie. Nakakaramdam na ako ng panghihina sa mga kamay kaso hindi na ako sanay at hindi rin sakto abg tempo ko pero kuha ko pa rin naman ang beat. Thank goodness at halatang nasisiyahan naman ang big bosses includeing Xavier Tan's parents na nakatingin sa akin at kausap siya.
Amanda looks impressed.
After I'm done, people are clapping so hard and they stood up. Standing ovation ang performance ko. I'm in awe for this moment. Matagal na akong di nakakahawak ng piano simula nang masira ang keyboard ko sa condo.
I stood up and Nathaniel embraced me tight.
"You really know how to make me fall in love, Alexandra Jung. You are like a pro at pa-humble ka pa. Mas magaling ka pa kay Xavier." He giggled and people are coming near me at ang dami nilang tanong kung amateur pianist ba ako at music major ako.
I saw Xavier staring at me at nakangiti. He looks so proud of me. Lumapit sa akin si Mr. Tan na tatay ng magkapatid na Alexander at Xavier. He shook ny hands and hugged me. Nakangiti naman sa akin ang nanay nila.
"You were exceptional, hija. Saang school ka ba nag-aral. My Xavier is just like you pero may halong romance at feelings ang pagtugtog mo." The Spanish-looking lady spoke to me and I smiled at her. Feeling ko member ng aristocratic family ang mga taong kausap ko. Nakakasilaw kasi parang sobrang gaganda at gagwapo nila. Ahhhh... my eyes are burning.
"Galing po ako ng St. Maximillian University, ma'am." She suddenly looked puzzled na para bang may mali aa sinabi ko. Is there something wrong? Magandang eskwelahan ang STMU dahil isa ito sa nga pinakamahal na universities sa Pilipinas.
"Walang conservatory sa STMU. doon graduate si Xavier ng BA at si Alexander ng law." Napangiti ako. Kaya naman pala siya nagtataka.
"I'm a licensed doctor, Mrs. Tan. Hindi ho ako professional pianist. Wala po akong formal training. Dati lang ako nagpiano lessons at mostly self-taught lang ako." She smiled wide and hugged me really tight. Oh goodness, bakit ang wi-weird nila? Why is she hugging me this way? Hmmmm... Super duper weird as in.
"I'm actually the company doctor, ma'am." I added.
"Wow. You are an impressive young woman. A doctor pianist? That's simply amazing. I wonder kung may boyfriend ka na, kasi baka pwedeng patulan mo naman kahit isa sa mga anak ko. I would love to have you in the family." I gave her an awkward smile. This is so weird. She just smiled brightly at parang nahiya ang mag-aaama sa sinasabi ng nanay nila.
"Martha, nakakahiya sa kanya. Sorry, Dr. Jung. Masyadong natuwa lang ang asawa ko sayo. Ikaw na pala ang pumalit." Sabi ng asawa niya na kahit matanda eh super gwapo pa rin. Sobra naman ang genes ng pamilyang ito. They have the perfect set of chromosomes.
"Temporary lang ho ako. Till next week lang ang stay ko kasi intern ako ng Falcon Medical Hospital and still choosing a specialization." Sagot ko naman habang nakatingin kay Xavier Tan. He's just staring at me while I'm talking to his parents.
"Hija, sayang naman. I'd like to get to know you better. You seem such a nice girl. Sana pumayag ka na i-date kahit isa sa mga anak ko. They are harmless kahit na mukhang hindi." Alexander frowned at his mom at natawa ang daddy nila. Natawa ako ng unti.
"Obviously, bawal ako kay Dr. Jung dahil may magagalit, right kuya? You will beat the sh*t out of me if I lay a finger on her. Ayoko nga mabaldado." Xavier came out of nowhere and pushed Atty. Corpuz and held me by the waist. He's too close! Anong palabas ito?! Amanda just smiled at me at hindi siya nagseselos? Why?!
My heart is like a drum parade. Nakakabaliw ang mga eksena. This is so fast at bakit parang di na pinansin ni Xavier si Amanda? Siya ang princess at bakit katabi ng isang prince ang tulad kong nerd at jologs?
"This is the girl I met in California, mom and dad. She's the Lexie I was telling you about. I really like her pero ayaw niya sa akin. She hates me at pero hindi naman ako titigil sa panliligaw. I can feel she already likes me. Pareho kaming in love sa piano kaya meant-to-be." Nanlaki ang mga mata ko. No way. This is wrong.
"Siya ba 'yun? Oh my goodness anak, congrats!" Niyakap siya ng mga magulang niya at kasama akong naipit. Natawa na lang si Atty. Corpuz pati ang kapatid ni Xavier.
"Welcome to the family, hija!"
"W-what? Oh no... ma'am he might be-"
"Call me mommy, please? Oh my Elijah, hindi na loko-loko ang anak natin. I'm so proud na disenteng babae ang nagustuhan niya. This is a blessing. A doctor in the family is one of my dreams at mabait na bata, maganda at talented. She's the woman for our son. We should meet her parents." At bigla siyang humarap kay Xavier na nakangiti lang ng malapad.
"Of course, she is the one mom. I finally caught her under my spell." They giggled while I remained clueless and puzzled.
