Ayden

It's the right thing to do. She bought this on herself.

I keep telling myself this but why do I feel tense and restless thinking about her in the dungeons. It took all of my willpower to lock her down there, every part of me wanted to break her out.

How could a woman who saves lives for a living turn out to be a murderer? She saved Dad's life but took her own Father's life, how is that possible? Her story just seems to match everything I've seen of her.

Maybe I was too harsh. There must be another way to keep my pack safe without hurting my mate like this. I rush to the woods wondering if I acted too hastily.

"Help, help!" I hear screams as I get to the dungeon.

As I enter, the prisoner is screaming for help and I see why. Kaelynn is unconscious. I run to her unlocking the door.

"Kaelynn, wake up." I say with dread, as I unlock her chains.

She doesn't move; she is completely passed out. My eyes move to her wrists as I notice deep bruises. She's barely been here half an hour. How can the silver have affected her this badly?

This is my fault. I should have just taken a few minutes to think, to let her explain. Errol is fuming with me; he won't even talk to me after what I've done to our mate.

Running back to the house with Kaelynn in my arms, I mind link Finn to meet us in my room. As I lay her down on the bed, Finn arrives with Mark and Avery trailing behind. They must have woken up with all the noise.

"What's happening at this time of night?" Mark asks as they enter the room.

Everyone's eyes turn to Kaelynn and then me in shock. I know what they think of me right now but there are more important things to do.

"Finn, what are you doing standing there! Check her right now."

As Finn begins checking her, Avery is crying and Mark looks at me in disappointment. I look down at my mate feeling disgusted with myself.

"Why isn't she healing?" Mark asks Finn.

"Her wolf is almost dead; I don't know if I can save her."

"What? How can the silver do this to her?!" I say outraged. I would never forgive myself if she lost her wolf because of me.

"I can't understand it. There has to be more at work than the silver here," Finn says as he continues checking her.

Avery storms out the room at this. She must not be able to take all this news and I don't blame her. Finn looks at a loss for words and I'm almost giving up before Avery walks back in and hands something to Finn.

"She takes these for her wolf," Avery says looking down. "I don't know if they are dangerous but she has been taking them for the last seven years."

Finn examines the tablets and his face drops.

"What is it?" Finn doesn't respond to me, so I say again with assertion, "Answer me now!"

"These pills have wolfsbane. How can Kaelynn have been ingesting wolfsbane for seven years and still be alive? It's impossible."

I don't know what to think but I know saving my mate is my priority now.

"Finn, there must be something to save her wolf."

"I'm administrating her Atropine now to dilute the wolfsbane but there is something else we could try. Her wolf could be awakened by her mate."

Finn is suggesting marking her but I know I can't do that. The moment is wrong. Instead I grab a knife from my desk slashing a deep cut through my arm to feed Kaelynn my blood. I only hope this will be enough to save my mate's wolf.
