The next morning, Berry woke up. her eyes were bloodshot from crying and she was stuck in Chase's arms. She wiggled herself out and punched Chase in the face.

"What the fuck you idiot! The sun's out! We have to move!"

"Owwie!"

Berry jumped and and held Chase by the collar.

"I can't keep on dragging you like a dumb dog. Get up and get moving!"

She quickly packed all of her stuff and Chase's and threw the bag at Chase."

"Chase, your bag."

She hurled it at Chase and Chase fell down. She rolled her eyes and started speedwalking. Chase ran quickly to her.

"First off, where are we even going? this is all too soon!"

"Quit your wining and get your life together and then I'll tell you."

Chase struggles to keep up with her as she speedwalks.

"First off, we're making a pit stop to gather food, toiletries, and more clothes. We're winging this shit, that's for sure. Don't tell me what to do or where to go because you know nothing. I'm the captain of this ship, and you're just the drunk crew-mate that keeps on falling off the ship."

"So you're calling me useless?"

"Basically. Now hurry up or else you're going to drag us down!"

After a silent walk, they finally arrived in Licorice City.

"This is our safe haven, we might make pit stops here just in case something happens, but only for emergencies. It could be weather, the danger of spies, or your stupidity. Or something else unexpected."

"What about your father?" Chase worried.

"What about him? he doesn't care about me, never did. Only if you are stupid enough to kill somebody or burn something down or cause a scene because knowing YOU, you will. That's why I'm your mentor, you should be grateful that you got me and not Crazy Steve or Jane the Ripper, you'd be dead. I at least tell you what you did wrong."

"You punch me in the face to wake me up."

"It gives you a wake up call, so you'd wake up in pain."

"Was your mother ever aggressive? Or was that your father's aggressive trait?"

"Do not compare me to my father or else you'd lose your sense of smell. I am not a monster just like him. My mother had a mouth, but knew when to use it."

"Were you always this bad?"

"Oh, you're calling me bad? You never knew what an adventure was until you met me."

They walked into their house and Berry started packing up food, water, a camping guide, some books, and many odd items that she loaded in so fast that Chase didn't get the chance to see what she was packing.

"Let's go." She signaled Chase to follow her and they quickly exited out of the house. For some reason, she was walking more slowly than in the fields. Maybe because she felt safer here. Or who knows?

In the fields, she's always in a rush. She wants to get out of the nowhere that is the fields and plains of nothingness. While in Licorice City, she is more calm and in place, although she pulls off a tough girl persona. Suddenly, she was walking a little faster.

Maybe she knew something.

They stopped at the edge of town, by Licorice Fields.

"You're going to ask me something, aren't you?" Berry asked.

"How did you know?"

"You're confused about a lot of things, that's for sure."

They started moving again until they were walking through Licorice fields.

"Well, i do have a question. Why are there spies?" Chase asked.

Berry sighed.

"Spies are bad, you never know if they are working for the king or if there is some dirty underground assassin group. Sometimes, they could be hunting down travelers for personal gain thinking that we have loot on us. What loot? In a world where you can go into a store and fill your cart with everything without the concept of money, I don't get it. Everything here is as available as could be.  Some people are bored of getting whatever they want and some want to cause chaos in the lives of others. But then again, the king doesn't care unless it affects something that he loves."

"I guess he didn't love your mother?"

"No, he thought she was pretty. But, nothing special, it was all lust."

"Damn."

"I bet you have a boring life, an only child, probably parents that were married for years, no half siblings."

"How about you? Do you have any other siblings?"

"Most of them are half siblings, I probably have 100. Because I was so stubborn in finding a spouse, my father went low to the point where he wanted me to marry one of my half brothers. He's nice, but he's gay." Berry's voice cut. 'And I'm scared for him."

"Why?" Chase asked.

"Because being gay in Candyland is illegal, and he's still in the castle. If my father finds out, he'll get killed!"

Chase was speechless, Berry started to get upset.

"People get killed because they're a darker shade, they get killed because they have imperfections, people get killed because they truly love somebody of the same sex or they hate their gender. No matter what, if you slip up, you get killed! I wonder why my father won't do anything to me, but maybe because I'm his daughter, and he can't do that. He knows that I'm the only living thing here that remembers my mother and if I get killed, everything will be leaked. I know more than he does, and he knows that. He just lets me do my thing because he knows that I'll cause a stir. But, my father has ruined the lives of so many people, even my twin sister. What's the point of saving them? Seriously, what's the point?"

She kicked a patch of dirt.

"Of course, that is powdered chocolate and it's on my shoe! Ugh!"

She took her dirty shoe off and threw it in a pool of water, she then retrieved it and put it back on.

"We're camping here tonight, nobody knows this area exists, only the folks of Licorice City do."
