Chase and Berry held each other as the portal swallowed them whole, an array of colorful colors flashed through their eyes, blinding enough to make you shut your eyes. They could feel their bodies and the weird sensations, as if they were pulling apart and moving like paper. They could only hold on to each other, and Chase slowly lost consciousness and his body stopped moving. Berry could feel that he had no pulse and she started to scream. Her eyes started to water and she could only grab onto his jacket, while beating his chest.
"Chase, no no no!"
Berry closed her eyes.
The sound of a highway woke up Berry and she looked around, an unfamiliar landscape was in front of her, there was a city full of building and roads that cars would pass on. The night was making the world dim, making her and Chase unnoticeable. Still holding on to Chase's shirt, she looked at him and his eyes weren't open.
"Chase, please please be alive. I can't be in this world without you, there has to be something that I have to do."
Berry screamed at the top of her lungs and beat Chase's chest harder, her eyes were full of tears. She felt a sense of pain, one even worse than a jab in a wound or a stab in the heart. She lost something dear to her, and somebody that she could say that she loved. Somebody that she did actually love, but of course her life always had to have something terrible happen to it.
Berry looked around at her surroundings one last time, a city, and even though it's nighttime, there is still just a little bit of vibrancy in the city, even a few cars are on the road.
She looked up and she noticed a sign.
Welcome to Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Berry suddenly remembered what she was talking about to Chase that one day.
"So, where's your hometown, human?"
"Well it's no big city but it's a place called Glenwood Springs, it's a small little town in Colorado."
"Is it one of those resort towns? Where like people reside and go on vacation around?"
"You could say so, we do have a lot of tourists coming into town I think."
Berry remembered the memories that were once fond and treasured all gone. Chase was not breathing and he was out cold.
Her eyes started to swell with tears as she struggled to keep them in, she let all of the tears drip onto Chase. She felt the unfamiliar sensation of pain, a pain that was worse than her mother leaving her to go to a new place without her.
Suddenly, Berry felt a weird feeling erupt from her hair, she could feel something causing a stir, but she wasn't sure what it was. A blue substance melted from her hair and came down onto the ground, soon turning into a snake.
"I guess this is what happens when a Candisons comes to the real world and they lose their candy hair color."
The snake hissed at her before it went in the road and got hit by a card.
Berry touched her pendant that had the remaining bits of magic left and held it tight to her chest. Her eyes still were full of tears, and she could not even smile through the pain.
She threw herself down on Chase's chests and then blacked out for a moment.
"Please, please please don't let this be real. Maybe if I close my eyes, all of this will go away."
There was a moment of silence until Chase's fingers started playing through Berry's hair. Berry didn't notice at first but then she woke up.
"Chase? Is that you?"
Chase nodded. His eyes slowly started to open and Berry got off of his chest.
He yawned.
"Where are we?"
"We're home. Or, your home you could say."
Chase tried to get up but there was an unknown pain that forced him to keep on sitting.
"Really?"
"Your home is Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Right?"
"Yeah."
Chase groaned in pain.
"What is this pain? I feel weird. Do you know?"
"It's normal for full humans to feel that, your bones will feel tense for a little, and you could get some hallucinations."
"Is that so?"
"It is."
That's when Berry hugged Chase and she fell down on top of him, and she started to cry.
"I thought I was going to lose you, I didn't want you to die."
Her hands grabbed Chase's shirt.
"You're the last person that I would ever want to die. It was my job to bring you back home, and when you were unresponsive, I thought that I failed you. I'm sorry, please forgive me."
Chase hugged her back.
"Don't feel sorry, you matter as well, I won't let anybody get in your way. Wait a second..."
He touched Berry's hair, there was a faint light from the moon and it revealed that Berry had black hair now.
"Your hair, it's black."
"I know."
"You look great with black hair, it's suits you."
"Really?"
"Really."
Chase wiped the tears off of Berry's face gently and then kissed her.
Berry smiled.
"We're home."
"We are home."
They hugged each other and then Berry went down and playfully tackled Chase down. She kissed him back and with a little more passion than usual.
"I can finally live like a human."
"And I can teach you how to be one."
"But wait, where are we supposed to go? You're obviously in pain and what would your parents say about me coming in? Oh wait, their memory should be coming back by now."
"Oh right."
"I know we can still use magic, so Aidia Ale!"
Berry preformed a spell and Chase was fed a light gold light of light and he started to feel better.
"I didn't want to accidentally hurt you while you in a coma. So, you're all better."
She picked up Chase off of the ground and Chase put her arm around Berry.
"Welcome to the real world, don't have high expectations for it, but it's disappointing, but at least your father isn't here."
