It was the middle of the night, and Chase was staring at the ceiling. It was too hot to sleep and the covers seemed to make him sweat to death.

He saw the curtains flutter from the patio door. So, he decided to get up and then just go outside and look out to see the sky.

As he walked out, he felt the cool breeze against his cheeks.

"I guess you can't sleep either."

He turned around and saw Berry from the next balcony, reading a book. She closed it and then got up. Leaning on her railing, with a smile.

"No, I'm just hot." Chase just scratched his head.

"Is that so? I guess you're not really used to Candyland in July. It's not too bad here, but it can get awfully hot sometimes."

"Why aren't you sleeping in a warm bed?"

Berry just laughed.

"I'm an insomniac. I can't sleep at night and that adds to my appearance of looking even more dead than usual. Trust me, I'm always full of energy, but I can't sleep. Also because of the anticipation, I never did something like we are going to do before. Which makes me a little nervous."

"You? Nervous?"

"I get scared too, you've seen it. It's not cute at all."

"Who says that it's cute? Being nervous is normal. It's ok to be nervous."

"I'm normally not, that's the thing."

"It's just that I never sparred with a knight either. And, they are just like me with magic. They also have weapons as well. They could hurt you first or maybe me. If I don't know what I'm doing, then I get nervous."

"Well, what are you planning on doing?"

Berry smirked.

"I know you don't know any attacking magic, but use some regular spells to distract them. It would get a kick to me and to you. I think I got them. Those knights, they are really terrible. They actually slack off on their training. And how do I know that? You might ask. I once had to deliver a promotion letter to a maid who was being promoted to the harem when I went past the knight room and instead of them training, they were doing some jig."

"Well, Candyland is this peaceful place."

"But, I wouldn't let that get to my head. I know that they are really tough and excellent fighters. I'm just scared on what they are going to do when we break in."

"What would they do?"

"Either kill us or bring us to the king."

"Neither of those sound good."

Berry put her head down.

"At this rate, it's really only you that matters to me. As long as you get home safe and sound, that's all that matters. And you know? When you leave, you can pull a Marissa and have everybody forget about you and me. I don't care if I have to sacrifice my life to bring you back home. There are two things that cannot happen to you. You, to fall for my father's trap and you to not die."

"But, you said that you wanted to go on this adventure together. You wanted to come back home with somebody. I am not letting you leave like this. Not if i sacrifice my life for you."

"When you go back there, you will have a life that will continue on, everybody's else's memory will be hazy from the time you were gone, but that's just that. At least you will have a family and friends and school to go back to. You're my top priority."

"And you are too. I'm just hoping that the best will happen for the both of us. That we'll both make it home together. And when you come back, you can live in my house, we have a guest bedroom that you can use. And you can have a new identity."

Berry flipped her hair up.

"I would kill for my new identity to be used."

"And you don't have to wait."

"But, I would meet your friends and you say that they're bad."

Chase just played with his fingers.

"They can be duds, but they'll teach you a thing or two and you can outsmart all of them. They'll teach you what it's lime to be a modern teenager and you can beat them in a game of chess if you wanted to. My world is a lot more technologically advanced than here, but here, it's somewhat more diverse."

"I hear America is where a lot of people from different walks of life live. There is some issues there, and I hear the food is not good."

"You pay more for a salad than for a quarter pounder with cheese."

"Your world does not make sense." She chuckled. "But nowhere really makes sense at all."

"If you think about it, yeah, wherever you go, something will never make sense."

Berry suddenly started to yawn.

"I think I might take a little nap. Right now, judging by the star clock, it's only 10 o'clock. For now, I'm going to get some sleep and at the strike of 3 o'clock, I will be right by your door." She blew a kiss to Chase and then she left her balcony with her book.

Chase just stood there until he looked at the stars and then looked back at his door. He started to walk back and then opened and closed his door.

That's when he suddenly felt a little tired as well and he decided to snuggle into his covers. They were cooler than usual, and that's when there was a faint sound of rain falling.

But how could it be? The sky was only clear just moments ago.

Who knows really? All that can be said is that a little sleep never killed nobody, and the sound of rain can be very soothing to the ears unless it is a total downpour to which it sounds like the sound of pots banging together.

Wait.
