Chase and Berry have been on the run for hours upon hours. Still so scared that there were spies on their track. By now, the sun was starting to rise, and they were both exhausted.
"Did you get your mother's ring?" Chase asked.
"I did." Berry took it out of her pocket and it was a gold ring that looked similar to a wedding band.
"Hundreds of times did my father try to propose to my mother, but she always rejected him. Why? Because she didn't want to marry a monster, and that's understandable."
"Your mother.... seemed so independent."
"She wasn't a pushover unless she was pushed in a corner. In pressuring situations, she fell apart, while I thrive in them. I know I am not 100% my mother, but I feel as if she wasn't born, then her soul would be in my body. I am the only person that knows anything about her, and my father's worst nightmare."
Upon their travels, they stopped across a gravestone.
"What is this?"
Berry looked down and read it.
Marissa August O'Leary.
December 27th, 1982- September 15th, 2012Berry was in shock.
"I know that it's fake but, wow." She touched the grave and then the ground within the two of them collapsed and they fell into an abyss.
"AAAAAHHHHHHH!"
Thud!
The world around them had turned into a caramel ground and white chocolate boiling down like lava.
Berry looked up.
"I remember being in a place like this once before, only vaguely."
Chase got up and that's when he noticed Berry's eye glowing. It was going from the normal blue to grey.
"Mom, was.... once here....."
That's when she got up and her head started to hurt.
"My mother came in here, she fell in just like us. This place does not look like Cotton Candy Cave. Even I don't know what this place is called. Ow! This headache that I caught all of a sudden."
"What's wrong?"
"No, must follow the road. Ow! My head! It's suddenly stubborn."
"I'm not surprised."
"Chase! Even after after all of the sarcasm and insults that I throw at you. The one time that I'm being serious, you don't believe it. Oh, it's whatever to be honest. I'll just go."
That's when Berry started skipping along the blocks of caramel and Chase was in shock for a while and then tried to catch up to her.
"Wait up!"
"Hurry up with your slow ass for once!"
"You don't have to tell me that!"
Berry went from caramel blocks to chocolate marshmallows that sank under your feet like quicksand if you were ok it for more than a few seconds.
And that's when there was a massive jump onto graham crackers that would break off if you jumped on them too hardly which then made a dramatic drop onto a spinning platform with a cake at the bottom. The catch? There were candles on top of the cake that could fall and burn you if you fell on them.
All while there was a faint aroma of sugar in the air.
Berry jumped from the top tier down to the bottom and quickly dived in the white chocolate and swam for a little bit.
"Isn't that hot?" Chase was shocked from a step behind.
"Nope. The liquid at the bottom is cold actually, too cold." She got up and instructed Chase to do the same. "Your turn."
Chase jumped in and screamed.
"Oh my god, it's cold!"
"It won't get any better if you take your time!"
Chase swam while in pain and he got up.
"Now, wasn't that easy?"
"Easy if I wanted to die."
"That's the spirit!" Berry was sarcastic enough that she gave a slap to Chase.
"Ouch!" Her head hurt again.
The two of them were at the foot of the entrance of a cave, the cave was at the bottom of the world, and it only seemed to go up from there.
Berry went full throttle into the cave, not hesitating for even a millisecond. And this time, she did not look back.
"Hey! Berry! Vanessa! Wait for me! Please! Wait up, I'm coming!"
"If you weren't so slow, you idiot, then we could do this together." Berry was climbing up a steep section and threw herself over.
She was swift, going from floor to floor and platform to ledge with ease. Just like she knew where she was going. This weird sensation made her look oddly dangerous but cool in a weird sensation.
Chase eventually managed to get to nearly her speed, just as a ledge collapsed after she held on, and Chase caught her.
"Thank god that you were there, other than that I would be whahahahahhahhhhh!"
Chase looked down. They were on a very fragile platform of a chocolate bar now, and the ground was right under their feet.
"What? Now, you're scared of heights too?"
"It's not that! It's just that when you nearly fall to your death, it's scary, you know. But, you probably never had a near death experience before. So, you don't know what you never experienced before."
"Bold enough for you to assume."
"Mr. Boring, that's what you are. You look ok but you're personality is a major turn off." Berry stated to climb up a wall again.
"Why would anybody find you interesting?" Chase said back.
"Oh, when we get up to the surface, I am so beating your ass."
"Whatever."
They reached the top of the cave and the ceiling seemed somewhat loose. Berry started to punch the top of the dirt.
"This is the earth, I can feel it. The earth of Candyland. Punch. Punch the ground like your worst enemy!"
They punched the earth over and over and over again.
Until, dirt started to fall on them and a tiny hole was formed. Berry decided to go first and climbed out through the hole, then it was Chase. Chase got stuck and Berry had to pull him out. He fell on top of Berry and for a second, they were in an awkward position.
"Well, this was useless. Look at where we are."
