"Is this another development that we're going to?" Chase sighed in boredom.
"Why are you sighing about? Come on, everywhere that we go is fun. Everywhere is interesting, everywhere is fun. You just need to stop expecting the same things because I know Candyland is shit, but you got to live life a little, you know?"
"I know."
"That's my Chase!" She bumped into his elbow and that's when Berry skipped a little until they really started getting into the development.
This development was where the houses were all brown, the same style as the other developments, but something was definitely different about this place. On one of the house up on the rooftop, there were two kids smoking.
"I already love this place."
"It does seem like it's right to your alley."
"The people here are the best! Oh my gosh, they know how to get down and get dirty here."
"Are you saying in a party way or like in a unhygienic way?" Chase tilted his head.
"These people know how to party!"
Chase looked around. Most is the people in this development has naturally darker skin than most of the people that they have seen. And while most of the people in developments were normal, they were having fun by kicking a cab in the street, dancing, and having actual emotions And more. Berry was happy, running around the development and saying hello and playing with the kids. Chase smiled since she seemed to be this happy person after all.
"What are you waiting for, Chase? Come on, let's go!"
Berry ran through the development and giggled as Chase was greeted by everybody so nicely.
"I guess that they like you. Come on!"
Chase saw all of the life that was in this tiny development. How people seemed to be the happiest that they had ever been. He looked and saw that most of the happiest people in Candyland had fake smiles on their faces and being happy was the only emotion that they knew.
"Hey! It's my girl Vanessa! What's up with you! How've you been!"
"I've been good, Jeremy."
"Vanessa! Long time no see!"
"Same with you!"
"Is that Vanessa? How long has it been since you last came? Like 2 years or so?"
"I got busy at home."
"Oooh! Vamessa's in town! Everybody! Our favorite licorice girl is here!
Everybody cheered as Berry was greeted with many. Hugs.
"I guess that you're popular here?"
"Some of the people here have never met anybody that treated them nicely. Because, although these people might be living in Candyland, that doesn't mean anything. Let me take you someplace else."
Berry stole Chase away for a second in a random opened house and that's when Berry finally started opening her mouth.
"Brownie Development is a place where people of color can be themselves and live their life without being discriminated. Other than Licorice City and sparsely populated areas, there aren't many people of color. And that means Hispanics and darker people. You know why? My father hated that there were so many people of many different diversities, so he forced everybody who was colored to be in a development. And to be honest, they made the most out of it. I mean, look at this place and look outside."
"They really do have tons of art around here."
"They have happiness that is so genuine that it could make me cry. Just sitting down with one of the older folk and they would tell you all about their days when they were your age. They would never judge you, unless you killed one of their family members right in front of their face, then you would be dead in line 40 seconds."
"What are you all doing in my house?" There was a mother with a pot.
"Oh, I'm so sorry Miss. it was just that the door was opened and that normally means that nobody is home."
"Oh no. That's my 7 year old son. He forgot to close the door after he went outside to play. Anyways, would you two like a sweet stew?"
"Of course."
"Make yourselves comfortable. My home is a home for all. Other than thrives of course."
The mother heated up the stew, added a little flavor towards it and then let it cool down a little spoonful by spoonful as she blew on the hot liquid and set it down for Chase and Berry.
"What's in this if you don't mind me asking?" Berry asked.
"Marshmallow with yellow apple broth, pieces of kiwi and mango in this as well as I believe there is some plum in here too. It's a little on the healthier side because all my kids eat is the same old sugar, and I want to feed them natural sugar, you know?"
"Of course! I always like to eat healthy when never I can. It's a lifestyle, they say."
"You do look very tone. What's your secret? I want to get some muscle on me because I hate being a stick! It makes me look disfigured or something like that."
"Don't say that. Miss, you are beautiful just that way that you are."
"Awww, you're such a flatterer. Stop it."
"No, you."
That's when the two of them started laughing while Chase looked out the window, out at the world while a spoonful of soup was on his spoon.
"And what about you, young man? I guess that you like my stew so, you're trying to take notes on it or something like that?"
"No. No. No. You don't have to really."
That's when the woman started quickly writing notes all over a tiny note.
"Here you go. I hope that this helps."
"Than you so much."
By that time, they were getting to head out of the house and go straight down the streets until they reached the edge of town. They did their thank yous to the woman in the house that gave them a meal and soon, they said goodbye to that development as well.
