Apolgies on Deaf Ears

Techno was sitting in the hospital bed typing away on his laptop. They'd decided to keep him for a while longer, much to his dismay. He huffed and laid back, bored out of his mind. It was either sleep or work and he didn't want to do either.

He painfully sat up as Tubbo rushed in happily, "Dad! Guess what?"

Techno blinked away the black spots and smiled, "What's up Tubs?"

"The results from the competition came in! I'm going onto the next round!" Tubbo bounced up and down as Niki slipped in with a smile, Wilbur close behind.

Techno ruffled his hair, "That's awesome, Tubs! I'm so proud of you."

Tubbo beamed before his smile dimmed a bit, "You'll be able to come, right?"

"Uh..." Techno looked at Niki and Wil before turning back to Tubbo, "I don't know, Tubs. I'll try to, ok?"

Tubbo looked down, "Oh."

Techno panicked slightly, "Hey, it's ok- Niki and Uncle Wil will be there for sure. Maybe Tommy and Fundy and Grandpa Phil can fly back out too."

"No, it's ok..." Tubbo looked back up at him, "You should get better first, then you can come to all of my competitions."

"I'll try my hardest," Techno smiled before readjusting, causing pain to shoot through his body. He doubled over and clenched his fists, "Niki-"

Niki quickly went to get a nurse while Tubbo looked at him worried.

Wilbur stepped towards Tubbo, "Hey, why don't we go look for a book for your dad?"

Techno forced himself to smile, "I'll be fine, Tubs."

"But-"

"Come on, Tubbo," Wilbur quickly took his hand and led him out, the pair passing Niki and a nurse.

Tubbo looked back as the pair went into the room and saw Techno's face, before being dragged around a corner.

Niki watched as Techno sat in pure agony waiting for the meds to kick in, "You have to stop doing that."

Techno glared at her, struggling to keep himself from just screaming, "Not. right. now."

Niki sighed, "Just stay still, stop sitting up and laying down."

"Niki, please for the love of God, Shut. Up."

Niki shook her head, "You're never going to learn."

Techno started hitting his leg with his fist, "When did they give me meds."

"Literally a minute ago, give it a second," Niki walked over and took his hand, "You're going to bruise yourself, just wait."

Techno was about to yell at her when the pain went away and he immediately relaxed. He fell back against the pillows and exhaled.

Niki let go of his hand and shook her head, "I told you."

Techno opened his eyes and looked at her, "shut up and let me relish in the lack of pain."

Niki just started laughing, Techno joining in shortly after.

When Tubbo came back, he had to go practice with Niki, leaving Wilbur and Techno. The pair sat in awkward silence, Techno starting to work while Wilbur watched from afar.

Wilbur looked down, "Techno, I'm sorry-"

"Don't talk to me."

"Wh-" Wilbur snapped his attention up.

"You heard me."

Wilbur clenched his fist, "I didn't mean to." Techno remained silent, continuing to type away. Wilbur got up and closed the laptop, "Listen to me."

Techno stared at the closed laptop, "No. You listen to me. You want to run off and explore the world so I get shoved into providing for Tommy and Dad. You start drinking and smoking and then I get addicted."

"Well-"

Techno looked at him, "You're why I'm here. If you could have just been less selfish I wouldn't be overworking myself and end up turning to beer and smoking!"

"I didn't want you to end up here! It's not like I planned this!"

"Because of you, I can't support my son! Do you even realize how much you've ruined my life!"

Wilbur hesitated, "Right. Well. I'm sorry for ruining your life."

Techno watched him go and sighed. He opened the laptop and continued working, eventually working late into the night.

Niki slowly closed the laptop on his hands, "Techno, get some rest."

Techno jumped, "I- Some warning please."

Niki frowned and helped him lay down, "Wil told me about your fight," she set his laptop aside.

Techno huffed, "Of course he told you."

"Are you going to forgive him? He seems pretty down," Niki turned off the ceiling lights and sat down next to him.

"I don't know..."

"I think you should at least talk to him," Niki took his hand and watched him fight off sleep. He just hummed in response and finally drifted into sleep.

Niki stood and let go of his hand, readjusting to be more comfortable, falling asleep soon after.

She just wanted him to open up.
