Torn wings

Dream was grading an essay when he heard his door click open. He was about to sarcastically scold George when he looked up and saw a bruised and crying Tubbo.

"Tubbo? What happened?" Dream got up and walked over, kneeling before him.

"I- I was j-just waiting f-for the bus..." Tubbo sniffled and used his sleeves to rub his tears.

Dream nodded and sat him down at one of the desks, "Do you need me to call your dad?"

Tubbo nodded, "T-They took m-my backpack..."

Dream frowned slightly and picked up the phone, "We can go looking for it when your dad gets here."

Techno was reading against the window, listening to Niki quietly snore on his couch. Niki had come over and they were watching a movie when she fell asleep. He glanced at her before continuing to read, she reminded him of Wilbur in a way.

Niki awoke to Techno's phone going off and looked around confused. She saw him answer the phone and sat up.

Techno quickly grabbed his coat when he hung up, "Tubbo got into a fight."

"What?" Niki snapped awake and got up, following him out, "Did he pick a fight or is he getting bullied?"

"I hope it's the first one," Techno said as they rushed out of the house. Techno looked down at Niki and saw her shivering, "Did you not get your coat?"

"I- Well- You were in a rush so-" Niki stopped as Techno draped his coat over her shoulders.

He saw her pull it around her tighter, the bottom nearly reaching her ankles, "It's like you're drowning in fabric."

"Aren't you going to get cold?" Niki looked up at him.

"I'll be fine, don't worry," Techno gave her a small smile before the two briskly entered the warm building.

Dream looked up as the pair entered his classroom, "Tubbo just went to the restroom. I'm assuming you're Mrs. Techno?" He watched them both turn red and scoot away from each other.

"Oh- No we're just friends-"

"Yeah, friends- She just forgot her coat and that's why she's wearing mine-"

"Yeah, haha silly me!"

"What an incredibly stupid thing to- Ow!" Techno cut himself off as she hit him.

"I am not stupid!"

"I didn't say you were, I said it was a stupid thing to- Ow, stop! Ok, ok you're not stupid- you're not stupid!"

Niki huffed, "Thank you."

Dream laughed, "My bad, I'm Dream," he walked over and held his hand out.

"I'm Niki. I'm kinda like Tubbo's fake mom," she gave him a smile and shook his hand.

Tubbo opened the door and rushed in, hugging Techno, "Dad!"

"Hey Tubs, are you hurt?" Techno knelt down and started looking over him.

"So, do you know what happened?" Niki looked at Dream.

"He told me that he was waiting for the bus and got into the fight. They took his backpack, so I hope it's still around here," Dream said, his eyes moving back to Tubbo, "We can go looking for it, if that's good with you guys."

"That's fine with us," Techno said and stood, taking Tubbo's hand.

As the group walked, Dream couldn't help but smile as Tubbo happily explained his day to the older pair. They were an odd family for sure, but Dream saw the genuine love they had for the boy. They had a healthier relationship than some of the standard families he met with in his years of teaching.

After a bit, they found his backpack carelessly tossed to the side outside of the gym. Tubbo let go of Techno's hand and ran to the bag, yanking it open. He started to cry as he pulled out the small bee plushie, one of its wings torn off.

"Oh, Tubbo..." Techno quickly walked over and hugged him, "It's ok, Tubs."

"It's a special thing to them," Niki said to Dream, "He and Techno have matching ones that they kept with each other when they were separated."

"Oh," was the only thing Dream could say as they watched Techno calm the crying Tubbo. When Tubbo finally calmed down, they headed back towards Dream and Niki.

"Thank you for all the help," Techno said to Dream, holding Tubbo's hand.

"Of course. If there's anything I can do, just reach out," Dream gave him a smile and bent down to Tubbo's height, "I'm going to go report those boys. If they do anything further, come to me, ok?" Tubbo nodded and Dream watched the odd family leave.

Dream made sure to give the group of boys the worst punishment he could give them.
