Tommy was sat on the front door step, waiting. He waited until Dad came and dragged him inside for dinner.
"I can't stay for too long Dad, Techno said he'd be coming back soon," Tommy smiled, whilst Wil and Phil exchanged a look.
Every night Tommy sat outside on the doorstep until someone pulled him inside. Eventually, he stayed outside due to habit, but his brother always lingered in his mind. He remembered something out of a book Techno read him once, When you're missing me, look up at the moon. We'll always see the same Moon, let it remind you of me.
After years of waiting, of patiently sitting on the step, there was finally news. Phil sat down next to Tommy and hugged him.
"He won't be the same as how you remember him."
Tommy knew that, people change over time, Tommy himself had changed too. Tommy waited excitedly for Techno to come back, he sat on the step with cookies and milk, a handmade card signed by the three of them, and his toy sword. When Techno stepped out of the car, however, Tommy faltered before running to hug him. The man seemed cold and distant, an air of weariness surrounded him. He ruffled Tommy's hair, and moved inside.
Tommy was crushed. There were no hugs, no words, no movies and blankets, just a pat on the head and distance.
